Man has anyone else been down on the river and seen this thing moving under the water. It made HUGE ripples, i thought for a min i saw a black stick like object poke up out of the water in the direction it was moving. Then it must have went under more cause it was gone. Let me know if you have been out lately and seen any strangeness in the water.

Many years ago I belive it was the 40's mabey 50's a young man and his 2 friends were fishing from the bank when what he described as a long necked creature reminestent of sightings of sea serpents came out of the river attacked all of them and his 2 friends were drug into the water by it. The 2 kids did die. Death was ruled a accidental drowing. People assumed he was suffering from a complete hysterical breakdown from witnessing his 2 friends drowing and his mind just snapped. But he swore that a creature came up and dragged his friends into the river.

Yea well i figured i would get some joksters on here, but next time i go down on the river bank, i'll be packing my revolver, and my trusty camera. Some one tried to tell me it was a big cat fish, but i dont buy that. It was almost like a submarine was traveling by and stuck up its periscope, then went back down. It was just so weird, it was there and moving, then it was gone.

dude I was being serious. That story is true and its in the Independent archives from God knows how long back. Where at on the river did you see it? What side? How far from the bank? specific location? what time of day? Was it just ripples or did you see something more?? I believe you gimmie some details...what do you remember??? I am a member of cryptozoology.net and unexplained mysteries.com so cryptid sightings are not out of the norm of what I read everyday , but you have to anaylize the evidence.

I was on the ohio side, not far from where the bridge is. It wasnt in the middle of the river but closer to my side, but still out a good ways. It was late evening, didnt have a watch, but when we left it was 8:46pm What i saw was huge ripples as if something were moving through the water. It never surfaced, but i did see a stick-like object poke up out of the water as it was moving. Through the water i could only make out a blackish gray looking object, you could tell there was something there moving along. My dog noticed it too, and kept turning his head from side to side looking at it. It lasted probably 60 or so seconds and was gone.

The largest catfish in the world are not in the USA but the Mekong (sp?) delta ...the weight of the largest over there was 646.
Here in the good old USA our catfish dont get anywhere near that big. Urban legends of catfish as big as cars are just that urban legends. the biggest cat ever caught in the US was CATFISH, Blue - 124 lbs. Length=58 in...A whopper to be sure would be nice to land a record like that would need heavy heavy test line and a very strong pole. Just seeing ripples its hard to judge, the water color of the river itself could have make it seem black/grey as you were looking at it through murky water. The lenght of the ripples could also be a distortion as it moves forward the ripples from the back were still there. Who knows go try fishing that area mabey its a big Blue and you might have a new record. Good luck.

i have heard stories of divers going into the ohio river, and coming out swearing they never would dive in that river again. A diver was said to have explained that he saw monster size catfish big enough to swallow a man. He said its also pretty scary when you think you have just touched bottom and begin to walk around, when suddenly the bottom takes off. These were said to be divers who have dove in the ocean and knew there stuff.

Just because one hasn't been caught that big out of the river doesn't mean they aren't in there.

Raise your hands if you have had the "divers seen huge catfish at the dam" story cirulated in your area.

It usually goes something like this:
"There were some scuba divers working at the bottom of the dam and they saw some huge catfish. One of the divers was so scared that he said he would never go down there again."

There are several versions; divers checking out a bridge footing, divers looking for a drowning victim, divers recovering a sunk boat, etc.

I heard it when I was a kid, and I accepted it as fact and always wondered what it would take to catch one. Of course since then I have found out that story has popped up around every body of water in just about every state in the country. I was fishing the other day and guess what I heard from someone, "hey, did you hear about those divers at the dam....blah blah blah."

Its allllllllllllllll stories, passed down from one generation to another , its our tri-state culture thunderbird story. The Ohio river played and plays a imprrtant part of our economy and its just a good source of tall tales. This story is prevelat in almost every river system in the US... But sadly it is just NOT TRUE.

well you know that now its been proven that bull sharks can and do live in our rivers. They can survive and thrive in both the ocean and fresh water. They showed on discovery ch how theyhave swam way up into central usa. So you never know whats in the damn water. I also saw where gators are leaving there habitats and coming way inland.
