Don't buy their reptiles. They don't take very good care of them and are ridiculously over priced. I don't know about the fish or the dogs and stuff. But I bought a reptile from there and when I got it home it acted strange. Kept it for awhile and tried to take care of it and nurse it but it eventually died. If you're looking for reptiles check out the Kentucky Reptile Expo. It travels around the state and the breeders take excellent care of their animals and you'll pay less than half of what you would pay at Bert's.

They are way over priced. There animals are not takin care of either. Bought a dog from there and coated hundreds in vet bills within the first month, there fish are always very unhealthy. Find somewhere else, be worth the drive...

I bought a hamster there and it lived for almost 3 years, which is their life expectancy...you guys just dont know how to take care of animals...i have a beta from there...ive had it for over a year and its still going. And as far as your vet bills, what was wrong with the dog? Anything, or was that just the cost of puppy shots and to get it fixed?

Also, if you need to return something, even the same day and with a receipt, they won't refund your money, they only give store credit. That's why I only buy from them if it's something no one else sells.

Will never shop there again. Have been there three times in attempt to buy fish, can never get any help. Even when they are not busy. Last trip i did get one lady to notice me, she told me to stop whistling at the bird whose name is polly , she said she just couldn't handle it today. They are rude disrespectful and i dont know how they stay in business.

If you knew anything, when you do that to birds it makes them feel uncomfortable. She was more than likely just telling you that because she knows how the bird is, and she cares about his mental health. Animals aren't toys, they shouldn't be looked at as entertainment. Plus, the woman you said was rude may have had a bad day, or that's just her personality. Get over it!

Have gone there many times & only buy from them when I'm out of options! I hate Petland & there are not many other places around. I have gotten fish from Bert's that lived a week or less & died...their tanks are always dirty! Would never buy a reptile from them cause they are over priced as with everything & they are not taken proper care of. I have seen the staff be extremely rude to people & to myself. The owner or who ever he is caters to people who have a bunch of money to spend but could care less about any other customer. A couple of times I have been there & gotten no help so I left. They ignore people even when they aren't busy.

Since March 2013 I make the drive to Pet Palace in Huntington & am much more pleased with what they have and prices. They even offer to order me stuff without hassle.

DEFINITELY DO NOT SHOP AT BERT'S unless you take the time to go to Portsmouth where they are nicer & take better care of animals.

I am guessing all the good comments are from workers or the owner.
Not impressed

Being new to the area, I went in there a couple of times. I felt absolutely invisible, even when I went and spent a fair amount of time looking at the bunnies, no one bothered to ask me if they could help me, even though they were close by chatting.

I personally would not buy from them unless they were my last option simply because I choose to not patronize a store that sells puppies. I don't mind them selling birds, rodents, reptiles and the small animals like bunnies, chinchillas, etc. But I firmly believe that puppies should not be sold in pet stores.
