As a doctor in the area, I can assure you that KDMC provides some of the most comprehensive care around...IF you have good insurance. NOtice I didn't say "good." Because I wouldnt' call it "good". They are interested in procedures, not in patient care. They approach each patient with the thought, "How can I make money off you?"

If you don't have good insurance, well...KDMC could care less about you. Expect to be transferred to a center such as Lousville, OSU, or UK if you can't pay...because KDMC can't do anything to disturb their profits. But you'll win in the end, as those places provide care that KDMC could only dream about.

Do you consider Medicare "good insurance?" Because I hardly think the vast majority of inpatients are on private insurance.

I am not a fan of KDMC and wouldn't go there myself, but I work for a surgical practice in Ashland and I can assure you that KDMC does perform major non emergent surgeries on self pay patients. We see at least 30 surgery follow ups in our office a month who are self pay.

R u kidding??? KDMC gets every self pay within a 100 miles dumped on them. With the exception of st marys and cable the other hospitals in this area are a joke. Paul b, highlands, somc all dump self pays. I'm not saying kdmc is great, it sucks. Totally money driven, but to say they don't treat the uninsured is simply not true. Not only do they treat them, they send the home with free abx. Pay for the ride most of the time too. Even so, I still don't like em, the layoffs were BS, but they're still not the worst

I have lived on disabilty since I was 47 after cancer. While I know KDMC is not a great hospital, my best freind worked there for 30 years before she died 2 years ago. If you fall within the income guidelines the fed gov pays EVERYTHING that medicare doesn't. This is true for Bellefont too.

I have had surgery at both places. I had a $12,000 mri plus $10,000 in tests, surgery, ect and it didn't cost me a dime. Most people do not know about this program. Call Finacial Services and ask.

I have lost 4 of my 7 Drs in the last 3 years due to politics of KDMC. I still see one Dr as he is in private practice now and has told me horror stories about KD.

I just lost Dr Sangetta Patil for the same reason, she closed her office and moved to Fl this month, I have seen her for 7 years and has talked to me about the politics at KD.

I worked for 30 years, paid my taxes and would rather have my heatlh back than a monthly check but Fred Jackson is the one to blame here.

As others said, look at all the money they spent on buying and building. I use to work for a retail store where ole Fred was a regular customer and he spent some big bucks there, saw it with my own eyes. This is a small "good ole boys" town in every way. I feel sorry for all the people that lost their jobs, yes they fired the ones with seniority and kept the new hires to save money....period.

Oh and KD billed me for my mother for something that was dated a year after she was DEAD. I turned it into Medicare. The people hear defending Fred are on his "payroll". you can bet on that.

1) Isn't the owner of Boyd County Ford on the board for KDMC? Are all the vehicles owned by KDMC "Ford." Boyd County Ford is doing pretty well, considering a horrible recession that just recently caused 400 + employees to be terminated. I'm sorry they weren't terminated their positions were just terminated.
Recession hit the previous Nissan and Honda Dealerships on Winchester Ave. I guess KDMC couldn't spread the wealth throughout Ashland, and maybe own vehicles from different dealerships.
2) What is more important in health care medical staff or interior decorator? Isn't Fred's wife the interior decorator for KDMC? Is she still employed?
3) Shouldn't senority play a part in terminations? Senority typically equals more real world experience and new hire (RN) what equals a 120 hours of clinicals. Well, I guess you could look at senority as highter senority equals more money and new hire equals less money. Either option would play a part.
Finally, when it comes to my second topic, are there not laws that board members of a non-profit organization can not benefit from their position? If so, I wonder what loop-hole they found to allow the purchase of only fords. I must not forget, that all maintainence on those fords be done at Boyd County Ford as well.
yes, you are correct on all counts. ken blanton is the owner of boyd county ford and is a board member. and non profits are to have NO FINANCIAL TIES TO BOARD MEMBERS THEY ARE GOVERNING. KDMC HAS 9 BOARD MEMBERS OUT OF 11 !!!!!!! UNFORTUNATELY, there is no one you can complain to because there is no one over the board. we can get the board kicked out by reporting them to american hospital association, kentucky attorny general, joint commission , and taking up petitions to fire fred, fioret, and all the board members. and yes, fred's wife is part ownet of a decorating, gift, floral shop and yes, she decorated and also stocked and sold items to kdmc's gift shop, clearly a conflict of interest, but then again, fred is the master of the universe and and kdmc is his to do with as he pleases. the union people are the only employees who are not afraid of fred, because they are protected from termination without cause. listen up rob johnson !!!!!!! do whatever it takes to get fred fired, and board members kicked out and restore your union jobs.

Seems like he has a lot of "friends" that kept their high paying jobs. I would like to know who all of the board members are because I don't plan to use their businesses nor KDMC again. Boycotting, hitting them where it hurts (wallet) is the only way they are going to feel pain over the way KDMC employees were treated. What goes around, comes around, I don't think most of Ashland, nor the surrounding area is pleased with the kind of treatment the KDMC employees received. For the most part, this town and the surrounding areas were founded on the belief in hard work and honesty. I, nor my family, will forget the dark day in Ashland's history when our KDMC citizens were done so dirty. Whether citizens are pro-union or not, unity is what is needed right now. I think the concerned citizens of Ashland and the surrounding area should stand up for those that lost their jobs, and those that may in the future - and remember how the KDMC employees have been treated before spending anymore money with this establishment or it's board members
If you boycott KDMC you are hurting the employees stil working that hasn't done anything to anyone, causing more layoffs and less people to take care of patients. This is a horrible thing we are all going through, my heart goes out to everyone who has lost their jobs, but I still have a familiy to take of myself. Two wrongs do not make a right.

Your UNION may get a few 'TOKEN' places restored. But if the majority of you think you will get your job back..it is not going to happen!
