it's not suicide, per wsaz.com 's update declaring that police will not rule it self inflicted, and that it is still an ongoing investigation. the rest of the conjecture is mostly ludicrous.

There needs to be some kind of statement made. I carry a knife with me now. People are gonna get paranoid and who knows what will happen.

I don't really think you have any reason to be scared. I mean, it's a sick world, so you should have some protection anyway, but you're in no extra danger because of this...I believe whoever killed the pastor targeted him, and only him, for personal reasons. There are a few categories of thought on what those reasons may be, but it doesn't matter what actually happened. All that matters here is that this wasn't the work of a madman intent on killing others, or randomly.

We don't need hysteria in ashland/ww. there's already enough problems.

So are the stories of dismemberment fact or heresay at this point? If he was dismembered then why aren't they releasing that detail? Has any of the media stated that he was missing body parts or is this just a rumor? Are they having church there tomorrow?

is any of this something you really have to know? everyone says that we have a right to know if he was murdered and how. In some respects you can say that, but now you're just digging into the personal troubled past of the family involved, get perspective on what you're engaging in. This will not make you safer to know anything about.

namaste, I think you pretty much confirmed it with that comment. Nobody said anything about the family and problems so its obvious you know what really happened to.

I respect the need for privacy for the family, however, to tell the community nothing to fear after what happened without additional info is not enough to make me feel safe. I think an answer from the investigators would be better than all the rumors. The truth couldn't be any worse than speculation. Most of all it is sad someone died that way.

to agree,

think of it like this,

If the pastor was targeted for something he witnessed or committed, then the community at large is most likely in no danger. If you don't know what's going on then it's very likely you are no target for anything at all.
The investigators are not compelled to make statements that my harm their case, which is still underway, but you should not leap to the conclusion that everyone needs to start packing weapons and never letting their guards down for fear of some ball cutting maniac in town. It's called hysteria, and it's a very real, very contagious phenomenon that can serve no good and usually ends up getting innocent people hurt.

To say what they know to ease the populace also lets the perpetrator in on the investigation and where it's leading. So try to relax, you will have your information in time.

Just trying to quell the stirrings before things get out of hand and some kid gets shot by a spooked resident for walking down a dark road in westwood some night.

if this was retaliation for a drug deal(him or his son) gone bad
then YES! unfortunately everyone in this area uses drugs or knows someone who does(sad but true). the community needs to know who did this!

and if he did something to a child, then YES! there may be other victims & obviously we can't have this happen again. 1 suicide is enough!

and if somehow he managed all that on his own & committed suicide, then tell us & put our minds at ease.

@namaste

also i agree w/ "AGREE" from above. you are either family, friend or my guess policeman b/c you are on all sites telling everyone not to worry or that's ridiculous & could never happen. go on w/ your lives. there's nothing to fear. trying to sweep everthing under a rug.
this man had unspeakable things done to him, this is extreme even for murder! of course we are worried b/c whoever did this is still out there!!!:-(

really guys i'm in the same boat as you, just a local resident who has heard the stories, but I think everyone is making too much of this and digging into personal histories of a family who is already going through a lot. I'm not with the police, or a friend of the family, I'm only trying to keep a level head and not unreasonably scare myself and my community.

Sure, there are things to worry about in this town, mostly revolving around poverty, petty theft, and of course the pill problem, which is tied to the thefts and other B&E and possibly robberies. Yes this was a particularly gruesome crime, but all I am saying is that it was a very personal crime, and unless you know something you shouldn't, then what do you have to worry about?

Naturally, curiosity gets the best of us when something like this happens, but people should not overreact.
In these times, it's best for us to be more careful, in all aspects of our lives, don't let your young children run free, don't leave your doors unlocked, be discreet with allowing your valuables to be seen through windows, and other common sense precautions.

Least of all should we be worrying about a murderer loose in town, anyone who would have done such a thing is very likely on the road out of here as fast as they can go...and likely some law enforcement will catch them when they trip up.

if that's what he thinks he's lost it. in no way were these two horrible accidents related. And for the record the rev. Was not the dontas boys pastor when he was a kid. Just so molestation theory is put to rest.

I'd say it has more to do with the son. Everyone is avoiding that conversation like the Plague. It would be hard to think he was the cause of his fathers death do to his issues. That would be hard to forgive or overcome.
MY OPINION ONLY b4 someone flies off the hook & tells me not to spread rumors.
