Actually, there IS some truth to the rumors, although I don't all the details. (I know KDMC is/was under investigation by the feds, but I don't the current status).

Yes, it is true. There are some Drs that are currently being investigated. Not to mention names but I know of one in particular that is being investigated for doing too many heart caths and he seems like he is squirming in his pants. He does appear to be nervous and he should be. He also should be ashamed and stop being so greedy.

True that there is an investigation for fraud, true that some doctors who did not cooperate with overbilling were not renewed contracts, true that the heart doctors do a lot of unnecessary procedures.

In Dr Velurys office there were prescriptions called in by a worker who had no qualifications. I got the proof. They were for minors who had never seen the dr. KDMC knows this and tried to blow it off as only inhalers and antibotics. I guess they are cool with unqualified workers prescribing. Should I sue them on behalf of the minors for some recklessness of the worker? This is another type of fraud.

Forgot to mention, the writing of the script by an unqualified worker is criminal. KDMC hide some more, as a felony was committed and they acted cool with it. lol I should just take the evidence to the FBI and rock. KDMC can settle this for about 1 mil per kid.

I find it quite odd that every insurance carrier is dropping KDMC like a fly. Letters going out like crazy stating if your provider is with KDMC, you will no longer be covered! There is a reason for that. It isnt going to be much longer and if you dont have the cash, you cant go there. That wont last long in this area...lol

Quite frankly, it's just the provider for Medicaid. Coventry is the Medicaid company. They dropped LOTS of hospitals not just this one.

Well lets see....There were only 3 in Ky to start with. Those would be Ky Spirit, Coventry Cares and Wellcare. KDMC dropped Ky Spirit first, now Coventry Cares and Wellcare will not pay for anything. Wont be long and any child in the stated of KY will not be able to see any doctor affilicated with KDMC nor use thier services. They are hanging thier themselves! Thankful that I dont have that issue. However, I feel sorry for these children that have established doctors with KDMC and are being uprooted! Just more negative agaisnt KDMC as if there isnt already enough! So the answer is no, it wasnt just Conventry Cares! They will drop Wellcare next and not be dealing with any child unless the parents pay out of pocket or have insurance. They wont get much around here.....lol....They get what they ask for! Just sit back and watch! It appears to me that others are moving in on their territory and going to slowly take over in more ways than one! lol

Coventry Care dropped KDMC because they wanted more money plain and simple. They thought the hospital should take less money for their services so that the big Coventry cares could put more money in their pocket. I hate the situation but you also need to realize the people on Medicaid that have this company can switch to another company. The hospital is telling everyone that. They would lose a HUGE portion of their profit it they just keep dropping companies or they get dropped by companies and can't see their patients. Does the hospital need to make money? Yes. Why? Pay employees and upgrade services. Does it seem they are money hungry? Sure, if you want to see it that way. I feel bad for the kids as well. It's up to the parents to get the coverage switched or get a job with insurance if they don't like Wellcare.

I believe that it is more than clear that we all know why KDMC dropped the carriers. It is over money. That doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that out. My point is, the majority of the population around here is on some type of assistance as such (and yes, I know this because I work in the field) With KDMC having already dropped 2 of 3, I see them dropping the 3rd before long. Then they will not be getting any money and 65% of their pts are these types of pts. I see a major crisis coming in the state of Ky. with coverage at the state level. Yes, parents need to find their children coverage. However, lets be realistic here, you and I both know this is not going to happen in this area and nobody is going to make it happen. So no need to complain because you nor I can change that. I could care a less about these adults abusing the system having coverage because they dont deserve it to start with. I am concerned about the children and elderly. While KDMC does have to make money to continue to operate, they need to stop abusing the system as well. They have done it for years and it has now been made public. I think the community is fully aware of it at this point. I really hate to see what was once a wonderful place to work take themselves under over greed and that is exactly what is happening and everyone around them sees it. You have other people moving in on them that can and will provide better services. They better step up to the plate and think about some of the decisions that they are making. They are making themselves look bad to the community daily with thier poor decision making! I could personally care a less what happens to the place. It isnt my problem. However, I do worry about coverage for children who's parents are useless and will remain useless. I dont want to see these children neglected if they have medical need and it WILL happen unless it is an emergency! Or, they will simply take thier kids elsewhere where services are offered and government funded and they dont have to live in Ky to get the services. Do you realize what other opportunities have recently become available in this area? Many! Just sayin' By the way, I dont want to see more people in the Ashland community lose their jobs! They have done enough people dirty and they will continue because they will continue the downward spiral! Watch and see!

[I understand where you are coming from completely. The business of money-making is not only restricted to KDMC. All businesses are open to make money. Having said that, yes, let's not abuse the Medicare/Medicaid system by overcharging and double billing. Funny thing is, many doctors and hospitals did it for years. I'm NOT saying its right. I'm saying it happened. Abuse of all public assistance has taken place since the beginning and its well past the time that it should've been overhauled. I'm all for people that have fallen upon hard times getting help. I'm not for generations of people on assistance. All of that is neither here nor there because I'm off point.

Everyone says that they don't care what happens to KDMC. Does no one realize how many people are employed there? Thousands really. The local economy cannot take that kind of hit. Most people live paycheck to paycheck as it is. If the hospital drops another Medicaid provider it will be shooting itself in the foot. As you said, the majority of people in this area are on some form of assistance. That leads anyone with common sense to realize that most of the hospitals business would be from Medicare/Medicaid. If they dropped Wellcare, then the hospital gets what it deserves. I'm sure you would agree with that. In the end, it would be totally ridiculous for them to drop WellCare. Maybe with it being down to one provider, they will be more willing to negotiate their contract.

For those who don't know how it works just as a FYI, WellCare, Ky Spirit, and Coventry Cares are all basically insurance companies who represent the state. The state pays them and the companies monitor all the details of each claim. Gives the state one less thing to worry about as long as those companies are honest that is.

I'm not trying to fight with you. We basically agree on most our points. I just want the public to realize that people work there. Those people have families, bills, kids, homes, and vehicles. They laugh, love, hurt, cry and suffer. They are overworked, short handed, tired and hungry because they had no time to eat lunch. They work nights, weekends, and holidays and spend a lot of time away from their own families to take care of others. Most if them are there because they want to take care of people. They have worked without pay raises and been expected to still put a smile on their face. They have watched their friends and family be laid off and seen their suffering. I'm only asking that people have some compassion and keep ALL healthcare worker in ALL hospitals in their prayers. God bless each of you.

I heard that Paulus won't be working for awhile and Epling will be "laying low". I do know Paulus's cath schedule has been cleared. Anyone know any reasons, not just speculation?
