Thinking of relocating from Oklahoma to Clarksville. I was wondering what kind of town and area it is. What are the schools like and what are the people like. What is there to do there family wise. Etc. thanks

TN is a great place to live. Nice freindly folks, no state taxes, lots of recreation, but with that said, i have to say i would avoid Memphis if possible.

Well... Go to the topix for 73644 and 73662 and you will know why I can't stand this place. Not a place for a kid to grow up. Already been told to avoid Memphis lol

Clarksville is not the worst place to live BUT - it is growing (to fast, IMO) so traffic is bad & crime is getting worse all the time. Have you ever checked this site out? Zoom in until the reports start showing up. What's really scary are the numbers and locations of sex offenders (upside down red triangles) in the local area.

https://www.crimereports.com/

At the rate they're building subdivisions on anything that looks like green space, there is plenty of affordable housing though.

Clarksville is a multi-cultural shithole with so much diversity that the half of the crime stories on the Nashville TV news channels are about Clarksville.

The population has completely outgrown the infrastructure. Half of the restaurants in town are either Chinese hog buffets or Mexican taco swills. Clarksville now has all of the big city problems and almost no remaining small-town charm.

When I retire I'm going to move so far away from this crap-ass town that the chance of meeting a Clarksvillian will be almost non-existant.

I mover here a few months ago, and have mixed feelings about Clarksville. as long as you get involved in a church group or something similar you will feel at home. There are things to do mostly during warm weather season. If you live by exit 11, you will be closer to Nashville which is a very pretty cool city to visit.
On the other hand, the crime in Clarksville seem to be very high for such small place. Police department does not appear to be doing a great job, and if you check the news, DCS is in way too much trouble! So forget about protecting the children! Public schools are not the best, and with the exception of Clarksville academy, private schools are NOT accredited!. Rossview high and Clarksville high are ok, but zoning boundaries keep changing!!! Look around before moving, see what you can afford, and the type of lifestyle you want to live. There is a huge division between old money and the rest of Clarksville.

You got that right!I work in Nashville and live in Clarksville. I would live in Nashville in a minute if my wife could get transferred. My coworkers are always asking me questions about the crime rate here and how bad it is to live here. To Nashvillians living in Clarksville is like living in the slums. How embarrassing.

I moved here 3 years ago and I have to say that I cannot wait for the day I am able to move out of here and never look back. Clarksville Tn has the potential to be a much better place with a small city charm. However, the politics and corruption are the worst I have ever seen. Attorneys married to judges, a mayor who makes promises but does not follow through, and unless you are in trouble with the law, downtown area is not a place for you. Walk a block and you will find plenty of attorney's offices, bail bond, and one good place to eat.

I do, however, love my church and friends I've made here. My son likes his school Rossview high, but the kids here are not the same way as kids from all the other places I lived at. Kids are bored, getting into trouble, or playing video games all day. There is not much for them to do here, specially for the teen-agers.

I completely agree with comment #9.

Clarksville is a busy town. It's not a bad place like other states and counties it has its good, its bad,its rich and poor side. As far as violence and drugs it seems to be everywhere. But we are also a military town so it brings every kind of crazy. Locals are pleasant and friendly. And we have alot of police.

I have grown up in Clarksville so I have seen all the improvements that have gone on. Clarksville has many recreational opportunities and a great history. There are many choices for dining and shopping- both local and chains. Downtown has really started to improve with new restaurants and boutiques. As stated before, Nashville is about 30-45 minutes away so you can always go there for more options. I personally have family in Nashville that loves coming to Clarksville, but I am sure there are those that look down their nose at us as well. Clarksville is very diverse due to Austin Peay State University and the military base. I believe we have 27 different countries represented here. With diversity, you do have more crime, but the previous comments make it sound worse than it is. I live on the better side of town so I am fortunate enough to not be around as much criminal activity. However, I feel perfectly safe when I go to the "bad side of town". I think your feelings about Clarksville has to do with how you are as a person. If you choose to be happy and focus on the positive things, you will see all the amazing things Clarksville has to offer. If you choose to be negative and focus on the not-so-perfect things, you will not like Clarksville. I think you should definitely come visit us and see for yourself why people say Clarksville is a big city with a small town feel.

It's a big city compared to all the small towns around it. Of course, it is small compared to Nashville, but Clarksville is the 5th largest city in Tennessee. I believe it is the 9th fastest growing city in the nation and the 2nd fasted growing MSA in the nation.
