History of Lake Kapowsin?

Anyone know if Kapowsin lake is natural or manmade or have any history on it? What's on that Island anyhow?

Jerry-near as I remember it, around the same time Columbus was landing on the other coast, there were a few un-documented events over here. Mt. Rainier lost one of her sloping sides...basically the N.W. corner. There wasn't an eruption, but some how all the snow pack, rock, dirt, etc. came crashing down this direction. It is now refered to as the electron mud slide, or lahar. It filled in many valley areas, blocked creeks and small rivers, and flowed clear down the tide flats filling that area in and providing the smooth surfaces we now see. There's alot of history about that lake, the logging, the railway, and all sorts of tid-bits scattered across the web, but the USGS site has the best starting info for how the lake came to be. Go to the USGS home page and look up electron and/or kapowsin, you may find some interesting info there. I assume you fish the lake, if so, good luck and enjoy. Maybe I'll see you out there some day. Hi Zeek. My husband is a lifelong resident of the area and he swears that there was once a dance hall on a warf on Lake Kapowsin. I've been up and down Orville Rd., and as far around the lake as I can manage & can see no remnants of such dance hall. Do you know anything about it? Thanks!
