After reading all the articles it is aparrent that the Tribal Biologist does not know how to count. She gives two interviews, with two complete different sets of numbers. I would say her count is a guesstimate! Lets hunt elk! Lets draw names of hunters, for this Packwood area, who would donate one half of their elk meat to people in need.

Easy to say if you don't live here. Elk numbers are down and w/ this years hunt even more. The elk are heavy in Morton and Randle and do damage to farmers fences and eat hay for domesticated animals.
Tribe knows they are down and helicopter count and collars don't lie. What kind of mentality will kill them all?

I read your comment regarding the Elk in Packwood and you disgrade the Lady from the Indian Tribe. I don.t see any of you big game hunters up trying to feed the elk in Packwood. As for your comment about shooting the Elk come on back to our property we have trained the Elk to shoot Back. I want to see how many of you killers would handle that. Keep the Elk it is part of Packwood. If the locals like yourself don,t like them then move. Go downtown in the big city and see the gangs that run the street and see if you like the elk.

Ron In Oregon The fish and game do a good job by issuing a certain number of tags, whether bull or cow for an area that seems to be either over populated or doing damage. Another way is to issue some land owner tags for areas that the elk seem to be doing damage. You are not doing the elk any favors if you let them over populate and have to compete for food.

I don't see what gangs have to do with elk. You must not be a hunter and do not understand the concept of management and damage. If they were bears or cougars would feel the same way.

maybe the comments should be from the people that the elk may be hurting. None of these comments are from people on hwy 12. I used to live in packwood. I was up there about a month ago and could not belive how meny elk we saw all over. My sister also lived there for about 25 years it suprised her too. Maybe the choice should be the ones that have to deal with all the damage.
