Council ultimately recommended the PLCB approve the transfer, despite heavy criticism from business owners concerned about another competing beer retailer, and neighbors worried about the restaurant's proximity to the Seventh Street baseball field.
Don't you mean the Seventh Street Rite Aid??

Interesting

Let em have it.... or Wegmans will take the spot and charge more!

I say they should be able to have it, however, it would be quite a double standard if they are allowed the exact same buisness that the owners of the pizza shop down the street wanted to run.

...neighbors worried about the restaurant's proximity to the Seventh Street baseball field... Now "The Bad News Bears" can go in for a six pack before the game.

Wonder how many places they are going to let sell beer in the same block? If they approve this, then it's competition against the pizza place that just got approved to sell beer.Maybe we should change the name of the street to beer block.

All you people need to grow up. It isn't any harm to have competition in town and I would support buying a six pack or 12 pack to take home from there. The problem is the beer distributor in town has limited parking so this will ease the burdeon of parking to go inside and buy beer. If you don't drink, then you shouldn't voice your opinion. Most of the residents in Palmerton are for change but the Borough Council and Business Owners don't want to see Palmerton become a nice place to visit. We offer alot of variety which is hard to find in small towns. I am in support for Mr. & Mrs. Reis and I hope that they get the approval to open this type of store. Remember the more businesses in town helps keep the taxes down.

I agree the counsel and businesses don't want competition in this town but I think the convenient store is going to be a great asset to the town especially having a cafe type instead of a bar that sells beer and food.

just another bar

What's the difference between this place and your typical bar. Both sell six packs both sell pizza and hot dogs, why is this what Palmerton needs.Just where I want to stop in with my family go shopping and watch a bunch of people sitting around drinking. When the couple was asked if there was a limit to the drinking the lawyer quickly stepped in and shut that question down.I wonder why.

First of all Chip, nobody is telling you to take your family there to eat.(not shop,???) Secondly, when I got my FACTS...their intentions are not to have people hanging in there drinking, and they continue to educate themselves with knowing this business. Something many other business owners who sell alcohol should do instead lurking around causing trouble.

You're right. Maybe Palmerton needs a few more places that offer remedial writing/spelling/grammar classes instead.

Sorry but I'm not Chip, in the article Sheila is quoted as saying she would have seating for atleast 30 people and would allow underage people in. What I don't get is when you go out to buy a six pack or more of beer do you normally stop and drink one first before you go home. If you do does that mean you would be lurking around causing trouble.

From your 1st post that I responded to, you wrote as if you were at the mtg?? Now you bring the above issue. Let's answer that, I believe if this goes through( and I hope it does) their thought was, people can A) come grab a bite & drink & B) stop by for a six pack or two to take home. Remember this is not a bar, so it is not meant for "hanging out & getting drunk", so why not allow kids in to eat? I know mine will be there! So, what's your real problem?
