I wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy. No one could have ever made me believe 25 yrs ago that I would outlive even one of my children. Having lost my father, grparents and a brother, well those were quite painful but none could ever equal losing a child. I hope and pray you will never suffer the sorrow of that tragedy. This is a page I made in memory of my son....www.myspace.com/silvrfx ...there is a link on there to harmd.org , it is a wonderful site with extensive information on methadone... Sincerely, Pam

I'm off to actually do something, not sit here and argue with children who wouldnt know how to be a decent human being if it was beaten into there head with a shovel. I agree, why argue with ignorance, they don't know any better.

woof wrote: I agree with Are you serious. These girls STOLE the medication from the counselor. They had no right doing that. While I do feel sorry for the families, it was their own fault that they stole and took the medication. The counselor didn't hand it to them. The counselor didn't put it in their mouths. The families should NOT blame the counselor nor kidspeace. I agree that the ultimate responsibility for this rests with the kids who stole and took the drugs. At the same time, a supposed counselor should know who it is she's dealing with, and secure any tempting targets. What kind of credentials and training did the counselor have? Same thing goes for the institution. They should have a procedure for making sure these kinds of things don't happen. The kids behavior was predictable, and thus avoidable. No, I'm not a lawyer, rather a nurse. That's why I don't like the kind of sloppiness that it seems was at work here on the part of the counelor and Kidspeace.

Some simple common sense would have saved a life here. <quoted text> The counselor didn't exactly lock these meds in a closet. She left them in her purse and then left the purse where the girls could get to it. AND she didn't notice that the pills were missing for three days? So if someone goes in my ZIPPED up purse or my husbands CLOSED wallet it's not THEFT cause it wasn't behind a locked up door or safe????

Well said! Smilez wrote: I feel so sorry for the families of these two young girls. However, these girls STOLE the medication! It's not as if this medication was sitting out on the counter or anything. People nowadays are always looking to blame someone else instead of taking responsibility for their own actions.

It is sad that a girl died but even a low dose a methadone can kill someone who doesn't have a tolerance. It could have been a million other meds and the same thing could have happened. Benzos could kill too. At sixteen I knew what was wrong and right, and I made the choice to be a druggie and guess what I am paying for it now. We living in a "nanny" law socioty where the laws says (where I live anyways) that I can't smoke in a car with a minor in it, that I have to buckle up, and kids under 14 have to wear a helmet to ride a bike on the road. Whatever happened to common sense and personal resonsibility?? It still doesn't make what happened suck anyless for the family's of the girls. and btw a person's daily dose of methadone for pain could easily kill someone who didn't need to be taking it.

I was a drug user and i managed to get clean, all on my own, and i'm positive if i went into rehab, i'd still be a user today.

The story goes on,now the ******* lawyers get to have a payday, the ******* parents who helped *****up their kid in the first place gets to have a payday , all this crap costing tons of money because parents gave up raising and managing their kids years ago.I'll bet the kid was at a day care as soon as mom could find one.Oh yes! I know the response, had to make ends meet. People raise your own kids and they will have a much better chance of not ending up at a place like kids peace..

Sure, we'll just all stay home and collect welfare while living in the projects so we can raise our own kids like you say. Gee, what are the chances they'll be shot dead or become addicted to drugs then? Not everyone has the ability to stay at home with their children, Lord knows most of us want that badly. How many stable marriages do you see nowadays? Sometimes a mother, or even a father, has to be the sole provider, hence daycare, etc. Obviously you have no children or perhaps you have plenty of money to make your world go 'round. You are a presumptuous as*. Just thought I'd let ya know. Have a lovely day.

Of course I was going to defend many working mothers and fathers. Apparently you had no responses to the questions posed in my response. All you did was tell me to "ware" it.
