''I can assure this board that, prior to 2006, you probably won't find any errors because I was checking every bill,'' said Special Education Supervisor Rick Caffrey.
Probably? Did he say, "Probably?" Bring in all the auditors.
Thanks, Mickey.

Glad to see Mickey, admit his wrong doing, does this mean he's turning over a new leaf? Ashley, you know you should have mentioned that the mistake, even though it was over $100K, it amounted to less then 1% of the total billing in that budget category, during that time period. With no real controversy at the board meeting, what is Mark in the dark going to talk about on Saturday? I know, maybe he could get off his rear and explain, why the gambling tax rebates are so small and not fairly distributed? I doubt that would happen, he would actually have to do some research and it wouldn't inflame the public.

Did he say, "Probably?" Bring in all the auditors. Thanks, Mickey. Bring in the auditors to what, waste taxpayers money? To find out there are no more billing errors? Since the current audit covered the previous 2 school years and over 90% of the miss billing happened in the more recent one, what makes you think, there would be enough financial reward to waste money, auditing back further, other then stupidity? By the way what are you thanking Mickey for? Apologizing for bashing Rick? I realize it was the right thing to do, but it would have better, if he never criticized him in the first place. Because if you feel that Mickey found the mistake, you are very misinformed, all Mickey did was inform the public of it, long before it was fully investigated, to determine the amount.

seems to me the problem is with the person who checks the bills before they are presented for payment. surely that person would check to see if the person receiving the service was actually their student. might be interesting to see what other bills wern't checked before payment.

The integrity of the service provider is in question....they were getting overpaid but didn't have the integrity to tell the poor district they were in error.

won't dave and mooney ever wise up?of course mickey gets some of the credit for recovery of the 100 grand.it wa mickey who demanded the internal audit and was going to go to the auditor general. that was back when the biz mgr said the loss was only $400, then $1600. mickey going public caused the biz mgr to take another look. somweone tipped off big ears, or should it be big mouth, and that led to the 100 grand. mickey can't claim all the credit. there has to be a whistle blower in the p v office. is it he same one who tipped mickey off to the credit card thing.

by the way, I just noticed Moony says don't worry, the loss was only 1%...just $10 0,000. Everyone knows that is just peanuts to all the fat cats in the panther valley.

Could there be other $100,000 errors in that pile? Mr. Mouth from a few postings ago seems to be afraid of another general audit. Like Mickey says, "Let the sun shine in."

As was stated at the meeting by school personnel, the provider notified the district of the error. Integrity is not something lacking in the employees of BHA and Educare. As was also noted at the meeting another provider just repaid 82.000+ from billing errors. This was discovered at the yearly audit that is done for all out-of district providers.

Maybe PV can use the newly found money to help the kids out. Increase the coaching salaries, put the money in a fund for pool repairs, hire two more teachers in the district to reduce class sizes... the list goes on and on. Maybe even refund the $$ to the tax payers? What would that be, 8 bucks per household or something along those lines?

PVSD practices need to be closely monitored from the superintendent on down.Taxpayers, take heed - it's your money.

|
My Points
|
Point 1: Supervisor in PV refers students to his own business.
Point 2: Ex superintendent hired Caffrey and is now an employee of BHA
Point 3: Partner's wife is on PV school board.
Question: No conflict of interest?

The IU didn't want the fox around. He's now in charge of the chicken coop at PV. Way to go PV!!

Just to correct Ashley---the reporter.Caffrey doesn't work for educare---he owns it!!!So in essence,he checks his own billing, has a part in referring students to his school, and then currently hires PV board members to work for him. There are currently 3 board members that work for educare.Big conflict of interest is how I see it.

OMG! This certainly doesn't sound right. Why don't more people question? Can't it be looked into? Is the superintendent and the rest of the board asleep or what?

Doesn't seem to be an important issue to other board members. One who is in the minority tries, but gets lip service from the administration. So what can he do???He stands alone, and no one seems to give a dam.Everyone seems to be on a power trip, and the hell with everything else.I'm not a mickey supporter, but when he's right he's right.I think he just goes about it in such an aggressive way that it gets under peoples skin.I hope he keeps it up.The chain of command starts at the top with the school board, not with administration.we have it backwards at this district. The adminstration thinks they're top of the command, and that needs to be straightened out.Do any other school districts out there have their board at the bottm of the command???Would like to know the answer to that.

If you read Friday's Times News you will see that Mickey has been removed from all committee's and also barred from attending executive session meetings. How can you bar a duly elected school board member from executive sessions where they discuss personnel, legal matters, teacher contract negotiations etc? Isn't that what he was elected for? Taxpayers are getting shortchanged again.

In all sincerity - good luck to those that are questioning. Keep it up. Hopefully you will inform others. Don't let internal corruption in this school district continue.
