Joe Blow wrote: I'm not endorsing this act one way or another, but how the heck did the cops find out that this even happened in the first place? Who ratted him out? It's in a rural area where hunting-related gunshots are regular, not in the middle of Main St. Bethlehem. Maybe if he would have been a bit more discreet about it, he wouldn't be in this trouble? He beat the dog with a shovel in front of two teenage girl's he then told the girl's he would kill them too if they told anyone

People like you should not own animals and if you think that way, it's too bad you are even breeding children. I agree with an earlier commentator. We should be able to humanely put stupid people out of their misery instead.

Matt wrote: All I really have to say is this: I leave it to the owner to decide if the dog/cat/whatever pet needs to die. Healthy, injured, sick, whatever, much as the wives and children in ancient rome survived at the pleasure of the husband/father, a pet's continued life or untimely death is at the discretion of the owner. Just don't torture the animal. If the dog needs to die, and all you have is a dull knife or a hammer, you need to do your best to make it quick and as painless as possible. Mothers tend to be over-protective of their children. A dog that a friend of mine owned bit my hand pretty good one time...I understood, and had no complaints (I hit Dave on the shoulder and his dog just happened to be sitting on the couch right behind his shoulder). My mom insisted he put the dog down, but between the two of us we convinced her that that wouldn't be necessary. But I digress. My point is thus; He obviously had a .40 at his disposal, and didn't have a problem using it, why not do it right the first time? I had to put my dog Ray down about a year ago...it really hurt to do it, but I pulled the trigger nonetheless. He was my best friend, and the only consolation I had was that he died quickly. He got hurt while I was at work, and my wife called me to let me know he had gotten loose and fought with the neighbor's dog. She was afraid to let him back in the house, and had him tied up in the back yard. I told her to put him down, and I'd bury him when I got home, but she didn't want to do it. So I told her I'd do it when I got home, and told her to give him water and food. She said, "Why? You're just going to kill him when you get home." I explained that that didn't change the fact that he deserved to be as comfortable as possible untill it was done, I mean, we give a good last meal to death row convicts, don't we? I wasn't mean to him, I didn't yell, I rubbed his ears, told him I'd miss him and did what I had to do...feeling like a cad the whole time. A Cad and obviously a backwoods hick. Your dog was injured due to your wife's carelessness. Why does this story sound so familiar. Because it happens all the time. Your dog got hurt and rather than spend the money to take it to the vet for care, you shot it. Stop passing yourself off as a compassionate person. NOT!!!!!

WTF is wrong with those 2 judges?! It's bullshit that you should be able to euthanize your own "healthy" pet, let alone one that is disabled, ill, injured, etc. Where's the line drawn? This law would be rife for loopholes. Every a##hole who wants to could kill an animal. What is wrong with these lawmakers??

Can't we leave this guy alone and worry about more important things.

I am writing to thank D.A. Gary F. Dobias for continuing his efforts to obtain a proper result from the Superior Court. I was quite upset with the court's finding that the law allows a healthy pet to be killed. The horrific manner in which that dog was killed, by people he probably loved and trusted, is truly disgusting. If the law allows this to happen, it needs to be changed.

You should NEVER beat a dog with a shovel. Shovels are for digging the hole to bury the carcas, but not for beating the dog...for that you use a crow bar. Remember...Having the right tool for the job makes all the difference.
