We fell for the same scam in Ft. Mill. I will tell you and anyone else to run from these crooks. I filed a complaint against Grand Discovery with the BBB and because they were a member with an 'A' rating at the time, the BBB didn't do anything and sided with the company. When I filed my complaint, Grand Discovery had numerous complaints and still had an 'A' rating. Grand Discovery, Ft. Mill is no longer a BBB member, and now their rating has dropped. So, I don't trust BBB or Grand Discovery. See for yourselves:

I too, received a call stating I had won a sweepstakes for a Brand new Lincoln Navgitor or 45k, along with 3 other gifts ($2500, paid vacation, or TV )THIS IS NOT THE SAME PRACTICE OUT OF ASHEVILLE EITHER, I have been to BOTH locations and FORT MILLS location was By far the better of the 2. I sat thru the presentation and opted out of buyin anyting and received a numerous amount of vacations to choose from. I just got my airline tickets in the mail yesterday which is why i waited to post this. As long as you follow thru with the deadline date to submit your paperwork you will receive your vacation vouchers on time. My trip is scheduled for Mid Feb and I couldnt be happier. You have to ask yourself, is it worth your time and #2 MAKE the time to send in everything a week prior to the deadline (due to the mailing process ) The 90mins wasnt too bad I enjoy to travel though, so I found it very interesting and informative.

Great company- My experiences are way different from most of you. I have been a member for over 5 years now and use it at least 3 weeks a year. I figure I have saved over $15,000 since i joined. I have NEVER had a problem getting the accommodation I request and that includes high travel season. I do give enough time when I book. I even had to cancel a reservation 1 time and was refunded in a timely fashion.

Alan, where have you traveled through Grand Discovery during high travel season and how far in advance did you book your property? They told me in June that ALL of their beach properties in North and South Carolina had been booked for the prior six months of my call to them. That is definitely not what they stated during our presentation. They tell you that as long as you book 30 days prior to your requested travel dates that you are 98% GUAREENTED to get your first choice. I also tried to book in early July for a property in the mountains during a weekend in October...again they told me they had nothing available. I got aggravated with them at that point and started reiterating what they had stated in their presentation and threatened to cancel. Then, they come back and say they do have beach properties and mountian properties, but they were small rooms. They say in the presentaion that your accomodations will be a minumum of two bedroom/two bathroom accomodations. The properties we were quoted were one bed/one bath condos. Also, the price is not what they tell you to expect. They tell you that they will provide condos at 65% off the retail rate. Both the accomodations they quoted me I could have gotten at a lesser price than what they quoted. They are very deceiving in the presentaion. If they were a reputable company and wished to increase their customer base, they would have refuned us our money when we asked after showing to them their program was not going to work for us. Instead they sent us letters back that accused US of lying. We even picketed the office. They called the police twice and lied to them stating we were trespassing, blocking traffic, and harrassing customers, which we never did. We had called the police department prior to picketing and obtained a plat of the propery so that we would know exactly where we could stand and what our rights were. We even video taped and voice recorded our picketing (which they knew we were doing and they still lied to the police) and when they were told we were perfectly legal and would not be made to leave, they got very ugly. This company is one that should be throughly researched by all before doing business with them. From all the research I have done and all the people I have spoken to that have filed complaints with various agencies, it is obvious that your experience is not the "norm" with this company. I would also be interested in knowing how much you paid for your membership. Perhaps is was way more than what we paid and perhaps that is the reason you are treated in a more appropriate way.

I recently went to one of these presentations in Fort Mill. Unfortunately, I didn't do my homework by checking out GD on the internet first. I would have saved myself a 40 minute trip (each way). Jimmy Buffett was playing way too loud in the background, and my presenter kept bopping me on the shoulder and saying "keep smiling, I don't want to lose my job". After listening for an hour to all the great reasons it was such a good deal, she finally started mentioning $$. When I finally convinced her (and the closer) that I was NOT willing to spend $10,000 + weekly rental rate + weekly usage fee + annual membership fee, they let me go. Couldn't get rid of me fast enough at that point. Everyone was laughing and joking when I arrived, and by the time I left, no one would even look at me. My 'free' Visa giftcard is virtually worthless. The terms and conditions are so restrictive that there is no way I can meet them. As for the 'free' airline and hotel, after reading the info on the site, I'm not even going to bother trying to figure them out. I would have done better to remember: Anything free is worth what you pay for it.

We went today to the sales pitch. The guy "Joe" was actually a funny guy and very entertaining. We actually liked him. He didn't sale us anything, but he did try as this is his job. We didn't fall for the bravado, nor the promises or the LIFETIME guarantees. All in all, we were promised a netbook worth 499.99 just for showing up and sitting through the sales pitch. The guy told us they are spending 500.00 to get us in the door (hence the netbook), but when we got home and opened the product, it was a netbook worth 100.00. I called the main number and they transferred me to a representative that said we should have gotten the 500.00 one and had never heard of the one we got. He said he will send an email to the "higher ups" and call me next week and that he would fix the issue. I got his name and we will see when next week rolls around. I think they had the nicer ones for the people that bought the product and the cheap ones for those who didn't. And when I say cheap....I mean CHEAP!

They must be working this area now. There use to be a place like this in Wilmington that was shut down by the NC AG office in the mid 90's. I do not know why they would not be able to do this with this organization now in Asheville. We had joined just before the AG office closed them down and were able to get our money back since we stopped the payment on the credit card. We just got the invite in the mail and decided to call and got the name and went online to check the company needless to say will not go and see them this weekend for a netbook.

All these positive posts are from people associated with Grand Discovery. If you read the positive ones closely you will see that they are eerily similar. Online reviews at one time were great because they were written by people that had actually purchased something and they were giving their honest opinion. Scam artists like Grand Discovery caught onto this and started posting their own "reviews". Don't believe a word of their lies.

I called in when I got a mailer about a free laptop. I know that no one can give away laptops so that I will say good things about them, as the rep told me they were doing. When I told her that coming to Asheville was going to be impossible she hung up on me, after telling me they were trying to generate positive word of mouth. What a joke. Please don't give these scam artists a dime of your money!!!

They tried their pitch on me as well. Got me over there with a "free laptop". I was told by the manager that I was supposed to bring my wife. I was not told to do bring her along. So he gave me the "free airline tickets" for my time. What a rip off. Still fighting over the laptop he told me I would get because they did not mention bringing my wife. Roy Cooper will know about these folks and their lies today.

I never respond to these things but thought I'd check this one out. Just called about receiving my new "Skyteck" laptop with absolutely no obligation of course. Out of no where, the sales person tells me that we need to schedule a time to pick up my gift in Ashville, NC. Well, I live in TN, so I would call that an "obligation" if I have to drive out-of-state! When I told her the only day this week that I could come, she kept pushing me for my schedule this week. When I finally told her that it was becoming too personal, she hung up on me. So long laptop computer! If it sounds too good to be is!

My husband and I went to a presentation, and was given the same information on how this works, for price of 9999.99. Then it went to 2495.00 when we weren't interrested. My question for them was why we couldn't just book on the internet, for less than their weekly rates? They weren't too interrested in us after that. We were escorted to the front for our prize.
