Hello, Myrtle Mae, you drunken old sow, how's that DWI/hit and run going for you these days? Did you get active time? Driver license permanently revoked?

I am also partial to First Baptist of Asheville. But there are many other good churches around to attend. With all the transplants who have moved here, Asheville is still full of good churches. Amen!

I'm trying to get my last trash posted here before I get the cuffs clamped over my greasy wrists on the 20th in courtroom 2b. Come and watch. Representatives of MADD will be there too. Most of the posts in this thread are by me -- all the females and the larry and james post. I love to steal names from other people and be a slimy poseur.

If you're looking for a progressive protestant church where you don't feel you have to leave your brain at the door, try Grace Covenant Presbyterian on Merrimon Ave. Very open church, you're welcome whatever your race or sexual orientation. More young families than old...great programs for kids. Science is respected and theology is 21st century, not mired in the 18th. Tremendous outreach programs attempt to do what Jesus taught. Give it a try, it's nothing like the Presbyterian Church of old.

Progressive? You mean unChristian don't you. Sodomites need to seek forgiveness and not have their sin sanctioned by a "church". We all sin. God and His Son forgive sodomites IF the sodomites seek forgiveness and stop their sinning. I wish you all the b est. Just ask Lord Jesus to remove your sinful lust for the same sex. He can and He will remove your sin if humbly asked. Amen!

Sorry you feel this way, but your thinking is an example of why so few younger people want anything to do with organized religion. The claim that the Bible is clear that homosexuality is forbidden by God is poor biblical scholarship and a cultural bias read into the Bible. The Bible says nothing about "homosexuality" as an innate dimension of personality. Sexual orientation was not understood in biblical times. There are references in the Bible to same-gender sexual behavior, and all of them are undeniably negative. But what is condemned in these passages is the violence, idolatry and exploitation related to the behavior, not the same-gender nature of the behavior. There are references in the Bible to different-gender sexual behavior that are just as condemning for the same reasons. But no one claims that the condemnation is because the behavior was between a man and a woman.

For what it's worth...I'm a straight male, married more than 40 years. I was born straight...but have absolutely no problem with those born with a different sexual orientation.

Many kids of today have been brainwashed by yankee liberals. Christian churches abide by the Bible's teachings. A man laying with another man is sodomy, an abomination before God. Sex is for procreation between a man and a woman in holy matrimony. A man's baby maker does not belong in the filthiest hole of another man...common sense tells you this.
Seek forgiveness for sinful thoiughts. Do not sin. Beseech Lord Jesus to remove your homosexual sodomy urges. He can and He will if sincerely asked! Amen? AMEN!

We could argue all day and neither of us would change our mind. But for those looking for an open, inclusive church with a progressive theology, you'll feel right at home at Grace Covenant Presbyterian. Inspiring staff, led by senior minister Marcia Mount Shoop, will challenge your assumptions, not validate your prejudices. The church is on Merrimon Ave., across from First Bank. You'll see the big vegetable gardens on the front lawn where members grow food for those who need it.
