A homeowner in Farmingdale, New York, in a yearly ritual, strung Christmas lights on her house and then found this in her mailbox yesterday:

Attention Resident:
You may not know it but you are helping to destroy our Mother Earth. Your unecessary display of holiday lights is consuming more than your share of electrical power. The power for your lights comes from a source that has proven to cause global warming. This waste of electrical power is depleting Mother Earth's natural resources and denying your children and their children a healthly life. It is requested by those who love our Mother Earth you take down your holiday lights immediately.

Where do these people get off telling ANYONE what their 'share' of ANYTHING is?

Where do they get off worshipping 'mother'earth?

Where do they get off trying to make these folks feel guitly?

I think ALL of us should put large crosses surrounded with lights on our rooftops for Christmas.

Then at least come judgement day, these motherearth-worshipping folks will have to be accountable for being told the truth about the CREATOR of the earth (and denying it)...

So don't buy into it. It's your choice. But do remember, your god, according to you, created this earth and his progeny are abusing it beyond belief. Join Christians for Environmental Stewardship.

Your share? What are we, the old Soviet bloc rationing power? Good grief. And add another group among the lumps of coal who've bought into the man-made global warming hoax.

Hoax or not remains to be seen. The evidence is not conclusive or do you think so? Some think it is I'm sure but I remain unconvinced one way or the other. The fact is, energy production produces pollution which is undeniable, global warming or no.

I know a few "liberals" who love Christmas as much as I do.

It is ridiculous to give someone up the river over Christmas lights in their homes. I intend to have more than a few on mine, if I can ever get the other half busy on his honey-do list.

The only thing I find conclusive is that climate does, in fact, constantly change. I do not argue that there is a warming trend now, but we're both old enough to remember that 30 years ago, we were being warned about the coming ice age.
30 years before that, the danger was too much heat and on and on. It is also likely that man plays some role in this, too, but there is hardly consensus on how much. Anytime someone says 'the debate is over', that's a red flag for me.
No question regarding your last point - almost anything we do will create some pollution but I would say that just as undeniable is man's ability to improve the processes that are used to avoid fouling the air and water.
The smokestacks of old belching toxin-filled black smoke skyward no longer exist. Cars burn cleaner fuel and so do trucks and planes, so I believe man is doing his part to lessen the impact.
Add to that nature's own way of cleaning itself periodically and it seems that concern of our impending doom is greatly exaggerated.

What a crock. I don't believe this happened. I'd bet it's just another right-wing lie taken from yet another right-wing lying e-mail that's making the rounds of the uneducated fearful. Please give us a source. If it is reported by AP, I might believe it.

I am a "Dem" and a "Lib" and already have a yard full of Christmas lights, so the Dem-lib smear is garbage. I love Christmas and Christmas lights.

Sounds like a hoax.
Was the letter signed? Was it on oficial letterhead? Lots of holes in the story.

A true "liberal" would never tell someone whether or not to string up Christmas lights. I am a liberal, and that means the freedom to do what you want (within the law)....Live and let live is a liberal's motto.

I plan on doing the whole Christmas decorating she-bang myself either this weekend or next. All though, last year when I put up lights, I fell off my roof and broke two ribs....so I may forego on those lights!

There is no story. It's right wing propaganda, part of that "Circle the wagons -- the left is against God and Christmas and everything holy" crap that the right has to spread in order to validate itself.

I have heard you say that you are apolitical, and yet you lean to the liberal side sort of heavily, but I wonder about your religious interests. You seem to take every opportunity to belittle Christianity in particular, in a left-handed, biting, snide sort of way.

What a crock of bullsh*t, with the very transparent intention to inflame.

ONE person gets a note and firedlawman has to post it with an inflmatory title like "Dems and Libs against Christmas Lights".

I am sure the note was signed, "Sincerely, Libs and Dems."

Firedlawman, you are more of a nut-case than the note writer.

I get so sick and tired of reading this environmental propaganda crap day after day. The earth is warming do to increased solar activity which happens from time to time (the last time was the Middle Ages warming period). Yes, for those of you who don't know the facts, the temperature of the sun varies over time. It is the same reason we have ice ages from time to time. Global Warming has almost NOTHING to do with human activity. Wake up sheeple! This is nothing more than a way to take away your freedom. It is communism in sheep's clothing.

What? Against Christmas lights? Who? I am against the white lights. They are dull, boring, bland, blah humbug, remind me of all the restaurants and bars in Europe that hang them all over the place. Colored lights are cheerful, promote good feelings, remind us older folks of good times, holiday cheer and warm hearted memories. Who thought up these white lights? Why? Conformity? Sheeple thought? Colored lights are not permitted in businesses in our town, what idiocy. I put them up and am the only house around, but they are warming and cheerful. Down with white lights!

Seems a perfect description of Satyam. Everything he writes is in such a manner. I think he has a problem.

Tell the honey to get moving, time is a wasting.
I do like Christmas lights.

I like driving around the areas to look at lights.
