I support the officer ,we the people of
United States should respect the flag. Our men and women have support
this country for many years. We have right to freedom speech but we american people abuse those rights too.We can express how we feel about
what going oversee an apporiate way.
We were all in sorrows when the twins
towers were taken down.People want something done about it ,Now they wanted all to stop ,All good well
put your faith were we it should be in God hands in he will take of our country ,start Praying for the right
things .

I support the freedom to live a life free from tyranny...even when it comes at the hands of law enforcers. This was just wrong.

Just what northern state or part of Florida did the Kuhn's migrate from. For the past 15 years Asheville and Buncombe county have gone to hell with all these left wing idiots moving here. Do us "homegrown" people a favor. Go the hell back where you came from!

Yeah, yeah,'family values' and country music will save the day, mmm-hmm... go crawl back in your cave reading your Bible wrapped in your flag. Oh, wait, that would be flag desecration. Never mind.

This is soooooo crazy. These unAmerican pieces of s--- need to go live in Cuba or Pakastan for a couple of years. Then they MIGHT understand why everyone is upset about them flying OUR flag upside down.

Asheville has the attention of much of the world.

Bele Chere will draw 350,000 or more...yet the more important news from Asheville is about the very essence of why we are who we are...as a people ...and as a country.

The U.S. Constitution and the First Amendement are our lifeline to FREEDOM. Everyone benefits from the protection our laws provide.

I would hope that...as we celebrate our festival...with tens of thousands of guests in our mountains...and hundreds of thousands following the story of a war protest in our fair city...we all take a collective deep breath and thank our lucky stars...and stripes... that: THE RULE OF LAW AND THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH protects each of us...and all of us.

When you see your friends and neighbors displaying an upside down flag today and tomorrow and next week...or when you see a relative or descendant of a proud veteran of our armed services flying our flag proudly 'right side up'...remember...it is the same FIRST AMENDMENT that protects all of us...and our right to speak our minds and protest or support whatever we choose...and live safe and secure inside our homes...protected from governmental excesses along with 'all enemies...foreign and domestic.'

It comes down to one question....do you believe in The Golden Rule?

DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU.

We are all one...and our FREEDOM is NOT negotiable.
Respect the rights of all to voice their minds and be glad you live in the USA.

Happy Bele Chere 2007.

It appears these people wanted attention and have gotten it at the unfortunate expense of Sherriff Scarborough. The fact of the matter is, these people only had to produce a form of ID...recieve there situation and then take their fight to court. Instead they disrespected the request of a law enforcement officer and disrespected the American flag and now instead of the flagrant attention they want from neighbors, they have a much larger forum.
Letís not forget Officer Scarborough was only responding to a call from other more respectful citizens that obviously had concern for distracting the countries flag no matter what their opinion of the war.

I think the people who don't believe that the Kuhns should hang a flag upside down on their porch (to protest their government's policies) would be more comfortable living in a place without First Amendment rights or a US Constitution.

Like Cuba or Russia. Strangely, that's where they want to sent those people who exercise their First Amendment rights.

He was not called by "respectful citizenS", a military buddy of his told him about it. There was no call made to the Sheriffs Department dispatch.

What if this had been something you were doing at your house on your private property and your neighbor didn't like it so he called the cops and they came to your house only to bust out the glass and enter your private home when no laws were accually broken? Bet you would feel different then, but I guess in this country nothing is safe anymore.
Some of you people really just amaze me. If the shoe was on the other foot, it would be different!
I couldn't help but notice your heading "sick of Asheville" why are you still here????

I see disrespect for the flag all the time. I see tattered flags still in use. I see flags on sagging poles. Flags left out at night without lighting. Flags hung vertically with the stars on the right instead of left.

The police should be able to shoot anyone on sight who does any of these things. That'd teach 'em!

Jon, What did David Hudson mean by, "The sate's law is unconstitutional?"
As for the debate going on in Washington-What about the rules (laws?) taught to the military, and secondarily to school children (in my school years) about the appropriate treatment (respect for) of our flag because it represents our country? I am thankful for our 'Free Speech' laws, but as with most things in life, "My freedom ends where your's begins, and vice versa." The problem as I see it is no one cares about the respect for this country or another's choice or freedom, only their own.
I agree with those who say, "If you don't like it here go somewhere else." I don't agree with everything our government representatives do, actually not much, but I'm glad to be here where we have choices, even though some are limited (hopefully for the good of the many, not one.)

You really should try it. B/C it does. Don't go thru life being such a smart *** and not believing in something just b/c you can't see it.
