I know Scooters are better for gas savings, but the people driving those scooters need driving training. Half of the scooters out there unless u spend 1000+ dollars are total crap. They barely do 35 downhill. The scooter drivers get out there and put traffic to a stand still. People try to pass them casuing more problems. Im suprised there have not been more wreck due to scooters than there are.

Police were investigating the cause of the wreck?????????? If it had been a car that hit another from behind, I believe that would be considered "Following to close" and the back vehicle would be liable for cost of repair.

I know there is good reasons for people to ride scooters but my experience is that they follow to close, wait until the last second to stop, come up beside you and another vehicle in the other lane.

Registration and insurance should be required for any and all motorized vehicles operating on public thoroughfares, and their operators should be licensed. Anything less is a threat to public safety.

Why is this so difficult for so many to understand and accept?

Riding a scooter makes no financial sense. The potential medical bills far exceed the minuscule fuel savings.

I totally agree with you. I drive down US70 (a highway) that is a 55 MPH speed limit ... there are SEVERAL times that I have driven up on a scooter with their little tail light driving 35 MPH. I am wondering who will be at fault when I run over one of them at night - when I cannot see them.

I agree with Ref above. Scooter drivers and even bicyclists who want to drive on public roads should have the same requirements as motor vehicle drivers. A license for the vehicle, registration and some sort of insurance. Granted the insurance would be a lot cheaper...or maybe not considering the medical expenses they're going to incur.

Scooters that are 50cc and less require no tag or insurance and are made to do 35mph tops. They are supposed to follow similar rules as bicycles. I have come across several on 240 in the left lane(trying to exit on 19/23) doing 45 or so. These are either altered(illegal) or over 50cc(requires tag, insurance and dl). Go to gas station at State st and Amboy and check out the 30-40 gassing up for a night of crack sales around 7-8pm nightly. Many of these fine folks are all of 14 yo. Why isn't anyone policing this???

Same people policing that are policing the bicyclers that don't follow any rules at all. But oh well. It's their life.
