Now this I will agree with! Been to Asheville and the surrounding area several times and while I enjoy camping and hiking in the mountains, I find the city itself is infested with hippie weirdos.

Not just hippie weirdos. It's a gathering place for elitist liberals who move here and take advantage of the lower prices (to them) and push everyone out. It's a breeding ground for liberal hate, feminism, reverse racism, etc. Many of the most vocal are stuck in a time warp it seems and think it's the 1950's and segregation is in effect and slavery still abounds. About tired of it.

I readily admit that I hate these useful idiots because I've had to endure years of their labels and hate. I'm from here and that automatically gives me the redneck white trash label. Snob ass elitist garbage.

2. The scenery is depressing -- it's not that the mountains are small, it's that you can't see anything (no vistas) when you are hiking or driving (even on the Parkway) and every hike/drive/bike ride looks EXACTLY like every other hike/drive/bike ride. There are a few balds with vistas, but they don't make up for the dreary brown/olive green woods and gray skies (occasionally blue skies). And, people actually build houses IN THE WOODS where they have no vista. Weird. And they're surrounded by brown, brown, nothing but brown and dreariness.

... And did I mention that everything is a dreary brown/olive green? ick ...

... people living in the woods is creepy ...
The trees are every shade of green, especially emerald. The one color they are not is olive. If you want olive trees, just go out west.

This isn't the only place where people live surrounded by woods. Try places in New England or the Pacific Northwest.

As far as vistas, different parts of WNC have more vistas than others. Asheville might not, but Mills River does. Hayesville does. etc... if you are in a mountain valley area, there are more vistas.

Yep. Funny how they worship at the altar of Obama but never see them engage with blacks isn't it?

Or the awful women in this town who falsely assume men keep them down even though you walk into any office, whether public or private, and it's dominated by women.

Not my city, not my country. When people ask me why I'm not afraid of hard work or to get my hands dirty, I simply tell them because I'm not a real American. Real American can be seen in downtown with their hipster themes, masculine women and feminized men.

Who are you to look down your nose at anyone, their appearance or their lifestyle? I'm not going to ask you why you're not afraid of hard work because I could not care any less. I wouldn't want to work with you and certainly I wouldn't have you work for me. You holier than thou types are the biggest projecters in the world. Everything you hate about others is because that is you to the core. Get over yourself slimeball. No one cares what you think.

You care about my property taxes though don't you loon? The taxes I pay that are funneled to all your worthless causes and your councils. Say, those losers that walk the streets, they pay any? Nope. But they sure are vocal as to where the money goes though. Like good little tools for the progressives.

New Belgium woke up it seems. You don't delay a storage facility because you suddenly find extra capacity even though you were actively searching for a place on the east coast. Better wake up fools.

Funny thing about the hos in Asheville is they're on South French Broad cruising near the YWCA. You know, the place with the slogan that proclaims empowering women and eliminating racism. And one that is ran by a loon who proudly told us in her ACT article bio about all of her travels around the world in one sentence and in the next that white males are privileged. Hypocrite feminist piece of trash.

Asheville is an ugly city no natural beauty in the
city limits. No strict laws on historic preservation
and alot of rude people.
Heck my hometown of Lexington, kentucky has more
natura beauty than Asheville.

What is it about Asheville that makes all the trolls project their inner failings onto it? Usually when you're miserable and have little or no self-esteem, you project your failures onto your spouse or children... and yet as we see time and time and time again on here, the miserable failures in our midst here like to project their unhappiness and incompetence onto the city and blame it for all their problems. Sometimes they go to absurd lengths to do so, as in the case of the poster of many names in this thread who complains that Asheville has no natural beauty, then complains that its natural beauty is being built over. She complains that Asheville has no historic preservation, then complains that it has old buildings. Contradicting oneself when projecting one's abject failure at life onto a city has got to be one of the most fascinating indications of mental instability that I have ever seen. But what is it about Asheville that makes crazy, miserable people such a special kind of crazy and miserable?

I would like to thank all the posters for giving thoughtful and candid posts. I currently live in Denver Co. The company I work for has offered me a promotion in the Ashville area. So seeing whats right and whats wrong with the area is very inportant to me. For years I've seen people move to Co. and disrespect the native people and the land , so I understand how many Carolinians feel. From what I've read on line , it seems the cost of living is lower then Denver. thats a plus. Can anyone shed some light on the snow skiing in the area .

I would judge this comment as "Deranged", but there's no icon for that.

The snow skiing in the area is nothing compared to Co. The past several winters we did received very much snow. In the Boone,NC (approximately 2 hrs.) are they receive more snow and have good skiing. We also have two ski resorts approximately 45 minutes that offers skiing. These area have alot of man made snow.

Please don't listen to all of the negative comments on this forum. Asheville is a wonderful and beautiful place to work and live. We have a very diversified population, great art community, and beautiful mountains. The area you live is very beautiful.

All Asheville N C wants are old wealthy retirees. There is no entertainment for little kids outdoors. No recreation parks. The "so called" playgrounds have no covers and are painted with dark paint so if you take your kids be prepared to leave by 10:00a.m. or else have burned kids. In-door recreation is very costly. The whole area is advertised as something it certainly not. You want pot? Go to Prichard's park in center of down town, buy all you want, if you can wake the homeless and bums up. I know, I'm ashamed to say I was a native. Best thing you can do in Asheville is get out and leave it to the freaks and gays. HIV heaven!!!

I strongly disagree with your post!!! Asheville is a wonderful place to live and have children. My children and I are always on the go visiting different areas. The kids love to go to Carrier Park, we go on nature walks, we go to the river, we visit the Nature Center, NC Arboretum, etc. We love to hike in the National forest. We have visited a farm and enjoyed the animals and crops (organic and non organic).

When we decide to do something indoors, we visit the Asheville Fun Depot, we go to Climbmax and we love to go to Hendersonville to the Hands on Museum.

You are calling every one a freak, gay, bums and homeless individual who love the area. Why don't you stop and look for the positive. As part of children education and safety we discuss different life styles.

I am a native of the area and love the people, natives and those who have moved to our communities.

Asheville doesn't realize how small it is on a map. The people that can't see the faults of the dynamics are the problem. People are attracted here and then there's nothing that provides any stability. If you complain to anyone who might be able to help you then you are told that it's your fault that there's no real jobs here...or that you should leave if you don't like it...it's all a cliche. Some people are focused on treating people like real human beings and not just stare at the floor at the coffee shop. It's really fucking hard to push past the stupid politics here though with people that have been elevated to a point in the community that they can do no wrong...and do almost nothing to help anyone but themselves. The biggest scam of all is all the people making salaries selling a culture of "The Arts", "Honoring Tradition, Driving Innovation", etc. and completely failing to do anything that really makes an impact on the lives of the average person. I'm not saying that the artists are bad, I'm talking about people in high places that get paid to eat cake and nod their head a lot. It's a lot of bullshit. There's absolutely zero respect here for anyone born with the handicap of needing a job. People are afraid to be real people, they just want to hate on anyone different...they don't realize they are just bigots that's not a racist.
