I could care less what the general public needs or wants, I want my waterways, greenways and bicycle paths FIRST! If I don't get it, I'lll simply drown myself right down by Carrier Park!

They got a top-heavy employee expense in the city. I don't know how many lawyers they have drawing big bucks over there who ought to be turned out to work for an honest living.

One I know for a fact is an ignoramus who sits at his desk and doodles on a doodle pad and takes 3-hour lunches.

I see where Cecil Bothwell is busy trying to figure out how to cut costs. Good for him.

Its not often that you see lawyer and honest living used in the same sentence.

No problem. Obama will send the city some more stimulus money to cover their wasteful spending. Then call it jobs created and saved.

If the City bus system charged its riders $3 instead of $1, it would pay for itself and cut the City's budget shortfall by $1.5 million.

I see ALL local, state, and federal taxes increasing in our future.

Furthermore, if a person voted them in or simply did not vote, he has NO right to complain.

Perhaps you don't understand the notion that demand falls with increased price?

In addition, the quality of the Public transit system in Asheville is so poor, nobody will pay $3 for it, especially with a 30 minute layover (or more) between rides.

To give you an idea, I can get from Washington, DC to Asheville by plane faster than I can get from Asheville Airport to Beaver Lake by bus.

That's how bad Asheville public transport sucks.

Given that it costs $0.50 per mile to drive a car, bus ridership demand will remain relatively unchanged.$1 bus fare is a bargain.

Another alternative is to shut down the bus system. Most property tax payers who subsidize it never ride or benefit from it.

You beet me to it.

Whats funny is that government does not know how to live on a budget. Not only that is they could care less what the people want. They will continue to grow and spend at our expense. Kinda like conserving water. Everyone conserves and the water department sees that it can no longer sustain. So rather then cut they raise rates to matain their bottom line. All a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

Can anyone say more taxes. Thats what it will be no matter what they call it.

On a better note, if people like you James, would pay their taxes, and pay them on time, we could cut out the need for imposing Tax Levy's!

One of Bothwell's proposals was quite reasonable: garbage collection every other week, rather than every week. That sounds reasonable to me, how 'bout you?

I noticed the library is shutting down on an additional day -- Monday -- and that the basement floor is no longer open to the public.

In the courthouse the judges all use one "unisex" restroom, and in the jail is a sign which decrees, "If it's brown, flush it down; if it's yellow, let it mellow.(JK)

Just kidding in the last paragraph.

OMG, I haven't heard that one in 50 or more years. I remember many years ago when the laundry man told that one. Remember when laundry/dry cleaning was picked up and delivered to the house? Gee I guess some here were still using outhouses. Such a pity! LOL

Look at the source, you are replying to the biggest juicer in the courthouse. TK Tripps shut him off more times at lunch than the dishwasher turns the tap in one day! No wonder he is a washed up drunk who only LB would fARK!

What is a tax levy? I never saw one on my ad valorem taxes this year or any other year. You wouldn't be fos, now would you?

My taxes are paid for this year, and next year they will be due on Jan 6. I will pay them as I can, as thousands of people in Buncombe County do. If they are late, the county tacks on interest and some charges and penalties.

So what is the effect of paying late, as thousands do, cost you and "all of us?" How much?

If you don't like that, call the police.
