Poor fellow. Hope he'll be OK. Might be that he was riding his bike because he couldn't find anywhere to buy gas. If so, bikers be careful. And shame on the SUV driver. Hope he/she is found soon and made to pay for what was done to the bike rider.

Sorry for the biker. I would be afraid to ride a bike in this area.

I would bet money a red light was run. And it was not the SUV.

Ur listed as living in Illinois so maybe you dont have a clue that most of Asheville does NOT have sidewalks, let alone bike lanes. Many roads dont have curbs as they appear in Illinois.
So where are bicyclists suppose to ride ? On air?

You're a moron. He's in Asheville. ISP locations don't necessarily represent where you are. And as far as riding on air, it's up to them. Air would probably be better than getting slammed by SUV's. Your choice. I don't care.

At that intersection they run red lights going in both directions, but more so traveling down Patton Avenue. That is the same intersection where a vehicle ran a red light and hit a Sheriff's Department vehicle earlier this week. I have seen several accidents at that intersection where a vehicle ran the red light on Patton Avenue. However I have seen numerous people on bicycles with total disregard for all traffic laws.

And exactly what time is late Friday evening. Probably not dressed or had lights and it was dark enough he couldn't be seen.

Wreck was at 10:30PM. Only the bravest and the dumnest cyclists ride at that hour. Although judging by the location we do have a lot of folks whom are unable to afford other xportation around there and maybe that was it.

You ride at night you better have some lights, and a good hosptializtion plan.

Of course if Whitless hits you, since he is on record as wanting to do it on purpose, not only will he be Bubba's New Boy Toy, to which I bet Whitless is looking forward, but the law suit will be monumental.

I have yet to see a person on a bicycle obey a stop sign. Not once and I am serious. Perhaps the police should enforce this more frequently and there won't be a biker run over once a week.

Have to agree with you. It amazes me that bikes are not restricted to places where the speed limit is a little more acceptable. They are no match for a vehicle. Hope the person is ok.

While driving a city bus for a year I remember that intersection as one I always watched for a bike running the light there because it happened several times. Right in downtown you had to watch every corner because it was awful.

Things known from the story:
1) A bike and SUV were in an accident.
2) The cyclist is injured.
3) The SUV continued on, making it a hit-and-run.
I only see one law that we KNOW was broken.

The bicyclists are yet ANOTHER crowd who didn't bother to do their homework before they moved here.

Our roads are not safe for automobiles, much less little bicycles.

If anyone hit a person, animal or bicyclist, would they not feel it driving an Escalade?

That is what the SUV was. And the bicyclist did not deserve that LARRY!

The young person on the bike was 17. He suffered
head injuries. It happened around 11:30 pm as the article states.

Despite what folks say about bicyclists, SUVs, such as this Escalade (which was found further down
Patton and Johnston rd) did a hit and run with injury. That is serious.

I would like to wager how many people believe this
person was:
1. playing with his cell phone
2. had a little to much to drink
3. Inattentive driving.

Just so that some of the public realizes, when motorcyles and bicyclists sit at traffic lights by
themselves, the light will never change. So they
can go through the light regardless of color.

I do believe this IDIOT ESCALADE driver gunned it just to terrify the bicyclist and then was hit by the SUV.

So I think we should think about this 17 yr. in the ICU/neruo unit if he had serious head trauma.

Not only citizens read this information but also Law enforcement. They can obtain all your information and keep it on record incase you run over a cyclist or you are involved in a road rage altercation.

Lets see what happens in the future.
