I am concerned that with the intense media attention given to this individual, what with the media constantly showing his writings and video, that with commencements coming up next month, some "copycat" will pull another stunt just for the posthumous notoriety. Let us hope it does not happen.

Butte Montana
November 5, 2006 Home invasion gone wrong for criminals. Two illegal aliens, Ralphel Resindez 23 and Enrico Garza 26, probably believed they would easily overpower a home alone 11 year old Patricia Harrington after her father had left their two story home. It seems the two crooks never learned two things, they were in Montana and Patricia had been a clay shooting champion since she was nine. Patricia was in her upstairs room when the two men broke through the front door of the house. She quickly ran to her father's room and grabbed his 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun. Resindez was the first to get up to the second floor only to be the first to catch a near point blank blast of buck shot from the 11 year olds knee crouch aim. He suffered fatal wounds to his abdomen and genitals. When Garza ran to the foot of the stairs, he took a blast to the left shoulder and staggered out into the street where he bled to death before medical help could arrive. It was found out later that Resindez was armed with a stolen 45 caliber handgun he took from another home invasion robbery. That victim, 50 year old David Burien, was not so lucky as he died from stab wounds to the chest. Comment??? Stupid girl! Take your rape and murder like the gun-o-phobes would have you do! What a terrible example! |

I'm Bored
By: Karl F. Auerbach I'm bored. Really bored. See, I'm running this test. Why? I'm a concerned citizen. I've read reports on the gun violence prevalent in our society, and I'm concerned. I'm very concerned. Especially since I'm a responsible gun owner. It's just a small gun, a Glock 17. Still, with all the reports of gun violence out there, I'm sort of concerned about that gun. Which is why I'm running this test. It's a simple test. I've loaded the gun, I've placed it on my family-room coffee table, and now I'm watching it carefully for any sign of violence. Any sign at all. I'm hoping that it will actually go off, but I'd settle for its simply depressing its own trigger safety all by itself. Or even for its doing some name-calling. But so far - nothing. It just lies there. However. can I trust it? In a few minutes, I'm going to place a beer along side it just to see if gun violence is affected by the presence of alcohol. If I can find a copy of Hitler's "Mien Kamf" (that book HAS to contain "hate speech") or Al Gore's "Earth In Balance," and just lay one of those books right down there beside the gun, then obviously I'll be able to test the effect of hate speech on gun violence. But I fear this is still going to be very boring. So while we're all waiting to see if anything comes out of this test, let's talk about Smith & Wesson. Do these folks really think that caving in to the scare-mongers regarding trigger locks and "smart guns" is really going to protect them? All they need to do is to look at the tobacco industry to determine what the long-term impacts are of simply producing a product which the state decides to target. The tobacco folks once naively thought that warnings on cigarette packs would protect them. No way. A recent court decision has awarded a multi-million dollar settlement to someone who started smoking AFTER the warning labels came out. Think of the implications of that one. I wonder if ladder manufacturers really think that warning not to use that top step is going to protect them. But back to S&W. The problem S&W faces in trying to accommodate the scare-mongers is that they will willingly and eagerly alienate a group of people who are vital for S&W's continued existence - an oft-maligned group of people blamed by the same scare-mongers as being the sole source of "the gun problem." Yes, I'm talking about gun-buyers and gun-owners. Remember them - those people sometimes called "customers," who actually BUY guns from S&W -? Those people who are the SOLE SOURCE of the income that keeps S&W in operation -? Does it really make sense for any business to answer the "concerns" of non-buyers while completely ignoring the wants and needs of its customers? Sure, I know the "alternative" if S&W doesn't ask "How high?" when the "concerned" non-buyers yell, "Jump!" The FedGov, along with help from various StatGov Attorneys-Generals, will "force" S&W out of business via various semi-legal means. Lawsuits will be filed, courts cases pursued and won, billion dollar awards granted, and S&W will be out of business. |

Part 2
All in the name of ending "gun violence." Back to the gun on the table. The gun test is still underway, and it's still boring. A fly landed on the Glock a few moments ago, and there was some hope that maybe some synergism might result in some gun violence, but the darn thing flew away.(The fly, not the gun.) The gun is still just lying there. Boring. And it won't even touch the beer. If it doesn't soon, I'll be forced to drink the beer. Obviously, I can't let a perfectly good beer go to waste! So back to S&W. What are they to do? Acquiescing to the scare-mongers will result in their producing guns that the gun buyer doesn't want. I mean, I like new gizmos just as much as the next guy, but I prefer that they actually work, and even more than that, I want them to work reliably, and when I need them to work. I've got a 1998 Dodge Dakota with some pretty standard features like cruise control. We're not talking state of the art here; cruise control has been around for decades. You'd think Dodge would have that down pat, but the damn thing went out on me last week just when I was leaving on a long trip. It worked the night before, and then suddenly, in a time of need, and for no reason I could easily figure out, it just totally quit functioning. Picture the 2005 S&W Safe & Secure .22 caliber pistol. For "safety" reasons, the .22 caliber is the largest caliber S&W now produces. For "security" reasons, it comes complete with the patented electronic DNA sensor, which is designed to ensure that the gun can only be fired by its owner. Once programmed (both the gun AND the owner), only a positive DNA identification by the gun's built-in electronics will allow the gun to be fired. Sounds great - until you read the fine print: there is a 10-minute delay when the gun is first picked up to complete the DNA test. Bummer. So this "state of the art smart, safe and secure gun" is totally useless when it comes to stopping that thief or discouraging that rapist, but if it ends gun violence, it's "well worth it," and should be the only type of gun we get to buy and own, at least according to the scare-mongers. Speaking of gun violence, let's check back on that test. Damn, that Glock is STILL just sitting there. It must be defective or something. I don't get it. Here I've got a loaded gun, alcohol, some hate speech close by, and the thing just sits there. What am I dong wrong? I've incorporated all the aspects of gun violence and the thing isn't responding. Why? Maybe if I bring some kids around, something will happen. That seems to be part of the recipe as presented by the major news, uh. sources. Or maybe if I wrap the gun up in that hate-filled Confederate battle flag it'll react and go off by itself. There has to be something that will trigger (sorry) this lazy gun into some kind of violence. I mean, do I actually have to pick this gun up and pull the trigger to get something out of it? Oh, that's right. I do. Silly me. Silly test. And "gun violence" is a silly media buzz-word. But an effective one. |

You are behind the times with Smith and Wesson. In 2001 a group from Arizona (Saf-T-Hammer) acquired S&W from AMF, putting the company back into American hands. They renigged on their former cave in and instituted six-sigma practices in their manufacturing. At the time, the stock price was well under $1/share. The recommittment to the 2nd Amendment, along with a return to the manufacture of quality firearms (the M&P series is far superior to your G-17), put the company back on the right track. Stock price is now in the mid-14's, and they are firmly in the camp of free Americans. Several months ago my investment from 2001 was used to pay off my mortgage. You do all of us a disservice to continue to bad mouth S&W, as they are once again the premier domestic manufacturer of small arms for law enforcement, many military units, and especially for the shooting enthusiasts. They still make the only revolver that has a trigger worth a darn as well. PS....Don't get me wrong, I too own a G-17 (and a G-19) and both are great. They are, however, a foreign product which has not undergone any significant upgrade since the early 80's. |

By the way. Smith produces many more than .22 cal.
They still have a full line of revolvers, some using new light alloys for CCW. They also make the two largest and most powerful wheelguns on the planet --- the S&W 500 mag and the S&W 460, both on the new X-frame. Additionally they are producing a great AR15 for private and LE use, the M&P15. Before spouting off in neverland, you should do better research, as your postings are usually pretty readable. |

Great article. I've been the mentor for a Reynolds senior who has, for her senior graduation project, chosen the 2nd Amendment. I've been tutoring her at On Target for the past few weeks in handgun safety and shooting as her hands-on segment. Its amazing how well young girls do with guns. They take direction well, have steady hands, and seem to really enjoy the sport. My student, additionally, has become a great shot...not only with the .22 MKII with which she started, but also with an N-frame Smith M28, a Browning Hi-Power, and a Springfield 1911-A1 in .45ACP. She is planning on culminating her work by competing in an IPSC match one Monday night in the near future. The future of our sport lies in our youth. We should all be doing everything we can to promote the safe handling and shooting of firearms. |

Why is this story impossible to find on the Internet?

What liberals do not find in the Constitution they manufacture (see Roe v. Wade) but yet what is found in the Constitution they loathe (see 2nd Amendment). It is the law of the land for me to legally own and carry a weapon. If you think that you have the votes to change the law then fine bring it up before the people. Otherwise please shut up and go get yourself one before you get robbed, raped or murdered by someone that illegally carries one. Thank you!

Don in Massachusetts:
It's impossible to find because it did not happen. Check with the TV and radio stations in Butte, MT. They said nothing like this has happened there. This is the typical crap spewed out by the vicious right-wingers who think that they can control the world by pointing a gun at it. They lie and lie and lie, because, as Goebbels showed, the big lie is eventually believed. They certainly do not want to talk about Australia, where the people rose up in indignation after the massacre down in Hobart, wasn't it? No guns -- virtually no violent crime. Connection? Naah. that would be admitting that their precious toys might indeed be part of the problem and not part of the solution. You will notice that the people who scream the loudest are the least proud of their names. I have never hidden behind an alias or initials and I never will. Ted Remington |

Ted Remington with AOL (post #35);
What happened to Australia after they banned their own guns? Several forms of violent crime skyrocketed, it didn't disappear. Imagine that. You believed the big lie. By the way, I have witnessed events that the always-honest and so well-informed media later said "never happened". Another surprise, golly and wow. You are the type of rotten log that would prefer that I be dead now. I am alive only because I carry and was able to finally reach it and draw on a 5-time violent felon who was assaulting me with obvious intent to kill. So count my gun as one of many that is part of the solution, and has never been part of any problem except for thwarting the nefarious aspirations of criminals. I am also not a vicious right-winger; gee, what's wrong with this picture? I'll explain to you what's wrong; your argument is ethereal effluvia, and you seek to create defenseless victims, which makes you an accomplice. Normally I would just gag and move on to better reading material, but control freaks like you who want to make normal people like me helpless are starting to piss me off. What next, women shouldn't take self-defense lessons? Please get a life and leave us intelligent folks alone. The Midwife |

I'd like a citation for the above story; if it can be cited from a media source (Butte, MT newspaper?), it would be a useful reference. So far, however, a web search (including the Butte "Montana Standard" newspaper) hasn't turned up any references to it anywhere in the country |
||||
A search of LexisNexis does not produce any hits for the names or the location. |
||||
I agree with you.....it didn't happen. There is absolutely nothing in Butte, MT news sources that proves this story is true. Some people have nothing better to do than making this stories up to get people worked up. If it was true...good for her. But it wasn't. A lot of these stories can be "debunked" by simply going to www.snopes.com to find the truth. |

The problem with the "gun-free" zones is that they are not gun free, at all... it is just a resolution or a posted sign.
If folks are living and working in an environment that is "wide open" to criminals, they should not be denied the right to self-defense. If, however, you proclaim a "gun-free" zone, a courthouse, for example, access control measures can be instituted to prevent people entering with firearms. It would be a big undertaking at schools and campuses, expensive and inconvenient... but no more so than airports. It would raise the inevetable criticism of "fortress mentality" or "virtual prison", but it would mitigate or eliminate the threat in all but the most extraordinary circumstances. Even though I am pro-gun, I like the idea better than armed students. Let's face it... the schools and colleges, even with campus police (to react) have, in reality, absolutely no effective preventative security access control programs. |
