Gordon does not illustrate how he will reverse a law that passed the NC Senate 49-0 as a City Council member, or what ideas he will put forward to convince the rest of the state to agree with him.
Looks like a PERFECT FIT with the majority of existing NUTS on the AVL city council. A PIE IN EVERY SKY--but no mention of how to pay for it and a COMPLETE LACK OF UNDERSTANDING of the effects of the CRAZY POLICIES he wants to enact. Yep, he will probably win--NUTS abound in AVL.

With the way the masses are upset at our worthless and lousy running of the city people will see he's just another Council loon.

Id like to see council cleaned out but not replaced by the likes of his ilk.

Gordon questions the cognitive ability of "old people" http://scrutinyhooligans.us/2008/08/29/friday...

Gordon is glad that the Judge that presided over the Parkside controversy is from Waynesville, because he doesn't want the "regular" people in his own county courthouse to be involved: http://scrutinyhooligans.us/2008/08/21/monday... .*Note post above, where Gordon wants to resolve the water issue. The City Council will have to work with who else, Buncombe County, to resolve the water issue. Will Gordon be accepting of the "regulars" if they are involved in this resolution?

Gordon does not trust Carol Peterson or Bill Stanley's leadership: http://scrutinyhooligans.us/2008/07/08/parksi... .*Note post above, where Gordon wants to resolve the water issue. The City Council will have to work with who else, Buncombe County, to resolve the water issue. How will Gordon work with Peterson and Stanley if he does not trust them?

Gordon, a self purported staunch opponent against Parkside, supported Holly Jones for Buncombe County Commission after Holly Jones said the Parkside land was gone forever after the county sold it:“It’s done, and I don’t think there’s anything we can do to get it reversed. I don’t think it’s possible to buy it back." http://www.mountainx.com/news/2008/041608park... . Gordon also worked on the Holly Jones campaign.

Gordon calls for the immediate firing of County Manager, Wanda Greene: http://scrutinyhooligans.us/2008/08/08/id-rat... .

One of Gordon's hooligans released the name of a pregnant spouse of man Gordon was debating online. Gordon immediately redacted her name, noting that the same scenario had happened to him when someone released his wife's name. Within hours, Gordon flip-flopped on his once admirable position, and threw open the question to his hooligan community about whether or not the identity of the spouse should be protected: http://scrutinyhooligans.us/2008/06/26/parksi...

To those who oppose Gordon Smith, have no fear. He has too few supporters and his pockets aren't deep enough. A good thing for Asheville!

Carol, you are wrong ... Gordon has a lot of supporters and many volunteers working to get him elected ... you do not need deep pockets to get elected to a local office in a small town like Asheville.

Any plans for an anti Gordon Smith fund raiser. It's about time people stopped being intimidated into supporting someone and not opposing others. I say if Gordon represents the social and political ideology many of us disagree with. We should run commercials and get the word out. No reason we have to filter the money through some other candidate and hope they plaster Gordon's history for all to see.

Afraid you're wrong about that. Check out old editions of Mtn. Express. It has the candidates, their top priorities and their campaign $$. Those in the low digits went nowhere. It takes a lot of money for signs and tv and radio advertising. If the name doesn't get out, the candidate won't get in. Backers with networks and introductions help in that way, not just monetarily. It really is as simple as that.

Progressive thinking was at one time a great thing. Teddy Roosevelt and others were truly progreesive in the way they thought and conducted business. However, "progressive thinking" has become so cliche, it's the 2000's version of "thinking outside the box" (remember when everyone was trying to do that?). If a candidate has good ideas, they should express them and hopefully get a chance to act on them. Since almost everyone running is listed as "progressive", it's kind of a moot point.

Seriously, I always thought of the great progressives as bettering the lives of the common people, but over the past 20 years I've come to associate progressive thinking with I26 connecter delays, parks to walk dogs in, and running the Honda Hoot out of town.

Oh, and my comments weren't a dig at Gordan. Just my opinions on the progressive movement around Asheville in general. My comments could be applied to vast numbers of candidates reaching back decades.

Gordon Smith has filed the preliminary paperwork to become a candidate for City Council this year: http://www.buncombecounty.org/common/boe/Elec...
Just for a recount of what Gordon stands for:
Gordon so graciously referred to those opposing Freeborn's 2nd recount after the last city council as "right wing attack dogs" and "whining whiners". http://scrutinyhooligans.us/...
Gordon, in a profanity laced rant, referred to several of Asheville's online citizens as "dead enders" and "venomous dumb....", well I won't finish the sentence here, read for yourself. http://scrutinyhooligans.us/...
Gordon "shamed" the county commissioners after a public hearing when they did not vote for what he wanted. http://scrutinyhooligans.us/...
Gordon relentlessly mocked Stuart Coleman and his "sock puppets" during the Parkside Controversy, including spreading falsehoods about Coleman advocating for the open cut so he build the Asheville Mall on top of the infill: http://www.topix.com/forum/source/asheville-c...
...Gordon later claims he can "defuse the emotionally charged debate over development". http://scrutinyhooligans.us/...
Gordon, an advocate that all new construction should be LEED certified, refuses to answer questions about whether his own residence is LEED certified. http://www.topix.com/forum/us-house/charles-t...
Gordon stands alongside Robin Cape and former candidate Elaine Lite in supporting a 100% moratorium on downtown development until a master plan is finalized: http://www.topix.com/forum/source/asheville-c...
Gordon started, and abandoned, a public policy advocacy group, known as the Vance Policy Institute. Gordon's group advocated that the county and city pass a new policy which empowers circuit court judges to issue injunctions any time two public officials convene. Only the State can issue power to judges, raising the question of whether or not Gordon understands the power structure of the City and State. http://bothwellsblog.files.wordpress.com/2007...
Gordon wants to see partisan City Council elections. http://scrutinyhooligans.us/...
Gordon backed Cecil Bothwell for County Commission (Cecil is also running for City Council). Cecil advocates limits on business prosperity and isolationism. http://scrutinyhooligans.us/...
Gordon backed candidate Bothwell worries about illegal immigrants not being able to complain about the labor environment, so he favors giving citizenship to the illegal immigrants. http://scrutinyhooligans.us/...
Gordon demands that the City and County endorse Asheville Design Center's alternative 4-B proposal for the I-26 connector, even though the DOT has eliminated the ADC proposal from future study. This prevents the City and County from endorsing designs actually being considered by the state. http://www.ncdot.org/_includes/download/exter...
Good, informative post, but you could have shortened it just a wee bit, but just saying that he sucks.

Your current association as expressed in your last paragraph is right on target, Your three points are very good examples, but we all know that it goes much deeper than that!

Yes, but who is stepping into the line of fire for founding the independant movement. Sadly we need a person above petty partisanship or the left will enuendo them to death with rumors and lies before they even get started.

We know they don't want choice or honesty to be made available to the public.
