Castleberry's Food Company shuts Georgia plant as part of botulism

Castleberry's Food Company has closed its production facility in Augusta, Ga., after 16 cans of chili sauce tested positive over the weekend for the bacteria that causes botulism, company officials said Monday.

Could it be that said Mega Food Company does not care who they hire to produce their product .(they now use a temp service to staff , warm bodies on the floor ... Who cares if they understand the requirements to produce safe food )

Castleburys is owned by Bumblebee. I was working there for an outside electrical contractor during the Botulism shutdown when there was a negligent spill of chlorine gas (by Castleburys) which I inhaled while working. I was subsequently sent to the hospital for exposure. I have experienced multiple symptoms ever since then including blurry vision, breathing difficulty, lack of energy (can't do my job),phlegm buildup, dizzyness,and burning eyes and throat. I tried to go back to work, but cannot perform my duties as an electrician as before this incident. I would like to know if there is an attorney who would be interested in taking this case. [e-mail]

My husband worked at Castleberry's for 25 years. When the company shut down, they changed the dates of his employment so that they wouldn't have to pay my hospital bills. Something should be done!

Did Castleberry's go out of business? Their website is still up, and there hasn't been any news about the botulism incident since early 2008. It was pretty obvious from all of the safety violations that they should have never been allowed to sell food in the first place...
