I have backpacked the Appalachian Trail in GA & NC and never had a run in with anyone I thought would harm me. TIMES HAVE CHANGED! This world we live in is not the same as when I hiked the trails. I have never been a gun advocate but TIMES HAVE CHANGED, I am getting a hangun and permit to carry concealed!

How many people posted that they been hiking here for 40 years and blah blah blah ...

You have the intelligence to realize that TIMES HAVE CHANGED and you are not in denial!

The local lady was beaten to death. SHe had arm and hand fractures. Her skull was broken in several places. They think they have the perp. Because of the law, she was completely denied the reliable ability to protect herself from some worthless bassard. There seems to have been no way for that old couple to defend themselves from one guy with a club. If they had possessed a handgun and had the will to use it, they would probably be here now. Some will say it might not have made a difference. It might not have. Because of the law, we know for sure that unarmed people had no chance. If you carry a gun in National Forest (some exceptions maybe). or a National Park and get caught, you will go to jail. That's a risk. So is getting killed. I guess you have to weigh the risks and benefits. Or better yet, only go to places that allow law abiding citizens to protect themselves adequately.

This ones easy. It is prohibited to posses, in any working form, a handgun in Washington DC. Not only does it have the highest murder rate in, it also has the highest GUN murder rate. And NO ONE is allowed to have a gun. Just google highest murder rate, DC.
It's not the gun who kills people but the person with the gun

If you dont want to carry a gun then dont. If you feel safe without it and have never been threatened while hiking, congradulations. I just dont see why you would need to force your ideas on other people. If you think a 5 lbm. gun is to heavy for hiking dont carry it but if 5 lbm. gun is too heavy then where do you get the energy to hike at all?

Whats 5 lbs? You're obviously not a backpacker. UltraLite hikers are doing thru-hikes these days with rigs that weigh less 10 lbs.

Frankly, I firearm is simply unnecessary, extra weight, for most people. Common sense and the buddy system weigh nothing, and work better.

That is because the buddy is the one who is packing the heat.

I believe that people have the right to carry a gun. That right was given to them by god not the government according to our forefathers. The problem is the criminals. I think the people that are against carrying guns should concentrate more on the people carrying them. If park rangers would routinely check the people with guns and make sure they are not criminals you would get a better result than sitting on your computer arguing with guns rights activists. Your beating a dead horse, and I refuse to continue to do so. I see the point that both sides are making, but I also see alot of people running their mouth behind a computer on both sides. Be as respectful as you would in person.

Here is some stats that will let you know the possibilities. Many gun laws are put into affect to eventually disarm the public. Just understand that some peoples opinions suggests that they are for a gun ban.

The list will be country, year gun ban was issued, and how many people were MURDERED.

Soviet Union-1929-53-20 mil
Turkey-1911-1.5 mil, Germany'39-45-13 mil
China-1948-'52-20 mil, Guatemala 1964-'81 100,000
Uganda 1971-'79-300,000, Cambodia 1975-'77 1 mil

The total is 56 million people in the 20th century. Just keep that in mind.
