Google and youtube.com search him. Marvin Sutton, Popcorn Sutton, etc. Do your own research and if you still feel the same, I completely respect that, however, my opinion will remain that I feel he is a disgusting piece of work who has no desire and therefor never will, change. His own daughter will not even speak of him. His wife left long ago.
a daughter, "he has daughter"s" and I know of one son.
if you know of his oldest daughter, I urge you to have her get in contact with Sky Sutton, his other daughter, she may know nothing about?
you can google her also, she has a very interesting blog. and wants to find all her siblings from this man...it would be nice if you could help her out...Thanks...

Sky's book will be out soon if it isn't already. I think she'll have plenty of people contacting her as it is, if they want to be found.

You are wasting your breath. Maggie Valley mentality does not change and they cannot be educated. Others have tried. They cannot even spell alcohol poisoning and, even if they somehow managed to get someone to read the law to them, they couldn't understand what it meant. Just thank God if you don't have to live there.
I have lived in Maggie Valley for 50 years and do not appreciate being told that we cannot be educated. Have you ever lived in Maggie Valley, I take it that you have not or you would know that we are not the backwoods hillbillies that you claim , yes I can read and write (no I didn't have to have someone read me your comment) I have done rather well in my career. And as for Popcorn,
well, he's just Popcorn.

For petes sake this man did not hurt anyone nor the taxpayers, what is hurting us is oil prices.
Support Popcorn!!! Little shine never hurt no one. What is hurting people and killing them is meth & drugs & pills. Doctors & hospitals kill more people!!

It's a shame you didn't grow up learning that what Popcorn was doing was against the law, strictly for self glorification, and not even close to being worthy of legend status or a role model for children.

After reading and rereading both the other post and your response, I am baffled as to how you can make the assumption that Matt or any other person who was told stories in their childhood about Popcorn Sutton was never told that his moonshining was illegal. I grew up hearing the stories of him also, but I have never thought of him as a role model, nor will I ever. I've also carried the stories on into adulthood and shared them with my own son. Moonshiners are a part of local history in Haywood County, and like it or not, a part of our WNC mountain heritage. I listened and laughed, but never looked up to Popcorn Sutton for anything, much less as a role model in my life, and I feel quite sure that no one else who heard the stories did either. His name became famous for a reason and good or bad, his antics brought many little snickers and chuckles to alot of people. And good or bad, how many people in this world can bring a smile to someone's face upon hearing an often time much fabricated tale about them ??? Whether you like him or not, agree with him or not, Popcorn Sutton has that ability. Yes, what he does is illegal, but you need to remind yourself.... someone out there apparently liked his product because production went on.

I guess a little dope never hurt anyone either?
one of his convictions was for controlled substance, what prey tell could that be?
your comment is ridiculous! he never hurt tax payers? well us tax payers are tired of picking up the cost of single parent families that are forced to rely on welfare or government assistance because guys like him, that run or hide from the responsibility of providing for their off springs...
support Popcorn, I think tax payers has done enough for him, and had enough too! get real!!!

Please give this man a pardon. He has hurt no one.
I know him and he is not a harm to anyone.

Anyone know the status of Popcorn?

Last I heard his trial was set for 12-15-08..

It's a shame more people aren't supporting him.

Exactly. Leave Popcorn alone. It is right as a mountain man in the South to make his own whiskey. Damned revenuers.
Lol..yes it is his right to make HIS OWN. He wasnt though. He was making everyone elses and not paying taxes on it. That's against the law. You dont like it? Change the law, move, or get a big straw and suck it up.
