sorry. I meant to say. Is it true that Asherton city commissioner get paid $100 per meeting. It all about the bengi's.or $100 biil my friends. I think that we need to start watch out city taxes. City commissionors: Alex (gator) Garza, Mauro Bustamente. People please request how much money they have spent on regular meetings. The commissionors ARE HAVING PROBLMES with the fire department. They want to control of the AVFD. I think they are doing a good job.

The city commissioners get paid $25 per regular meeting and $15 per special meeting per state law. If you have any questions in regards to these issues why don't you call city Hall? City Hall will be glad to provide this information as it is public information. And if you should have any other concerns regarding what the city is doing, go to their meetings.

Hey Cheto Boy. To begin, please put your name on any further postings. It saddens me to see how someone with the name "cheto boy" doesn't have a clue about what is going on in the city. It also is very clear that who ever is giving you information doesn't care much about the city either. IF that person really cared, they would have the correct data (i.e. payment per meeting). I'm not here to bash on you, but grow up. We have bigger and better problems to worry about. And as per the government body of Asherton, I feel that they are doing an exceptionally well job. It's always easy to criticize about what could be done, but when you go from nothing being done to something being done, it seems that some are never satisfied (like yourself). Give them a break. Maybe if people payed their dues (water, sewer, TAXES-which you probably don't pay) this city would be in much greater shape.

Umm, David Garza from Arizona. it seems to me like you need to get your facts straight. How would you know what's going on in Cheto if you don't live here. The only reason why "Cheto Boy" didn't put his name is cause we're all afraid the city council will come after us and try to over charge us on water, sewer, taxes. We do pay them you know.

As for the the "Government body of Asherton doing an exceptionally well job" that's a bunch of bull. You and I both know that they aren't doing anything right,(i.e. Linda Villarreal,Riojas, Whatever her last name is this week!) Wasn't she the one that had criminal charges for taking the money from the city? Come on, you really didn't think she got that car by working at Middle Rio Grande. And Alex "Gator, Lizard, TOAD, whatever" didn't he have some drug charges on him also? Anyways, my point is that they are not perfect. Quit trying to make them seem like their shit don't stink cause it stinks alright. This city was never right and in my opinion, it's only a matter of time till it goes down the drain. The only thing keeping that town going is the fact that there is a Historical Landmark there. Or else everything would be gone.

All this "Government Body of Asherton" talk sounds to me like a way the mayor would refer to his council. Don't you think?

"vote 4 hillary", how can the city council go after you and try to over charge you on water, sewer, and taxes? First of all, your water charge is based on the amount of gallons you use on a monthly basis (meter readings), second, sewer fees are a set rate, and last, taxes are not billed by the city but through our taxing authority which has a set tax rate as well. So, no, they cannot over charge you just to pick on you.

And yes, the "Goverining Body of the City of Asherton" is doing an exceptional job. There has been more progress to this city of Asherton since the new elected officials came in than in the last two years the past administration was in control. As far as Linda Riojas, if you don't know she hasn't been employed with the city since last summer and I don't recall her having criminal charges against her, unless some are pending. But to answer your question, Linda Riojas was making more money with the City of Asherton than what she made at Middle Rio Grande. Try $26,000 as city administrator in comparison to the $19,000 that the new mayor gets paid as the city administrator.

No one, said that this new administration for the city was perfect, but they are doing a hell of a job in getting the city back on track. And the cities "historical landmark" isn't what is keeping the city going, it's the people who made a choice to elect new people to make a difference in which they are. You obviously don't know any facts about what is going on in the City of Asherton. If you want to criticize or make judgements about the governing body or the City of Asherton in generel why don't you go to their meetings as they are more than willing to take your comments, suggestions, and even criticism. If you're a coward and don't want to show your face at their meetings, then post a comment on the cities website but please leave your name at cityofasherton.com .

As far as Alex "Gator" Garza Jr. having pending drug charges, well I don't know about that but if he does, well that's his businees and until he's charged or found guilty, it's just a rumor.

And yes, the "Governing Body of Asherton" is the Mayor and two city commissioners which in other cities would be "City Council" because they are councilman. Same meaning, different terms. Nothing wrong in using those correct terms.

BRAVO "Cheto Citizen"

I'm sure the workers have messed up when they check the water meters. Why not add some gallons to my bill. I don't know how to check the amount of gallons I use. You honestly think the only honest person at the city (The Mayor) is going to check my meter to make sure they charged me right. I don't think so. He's going to let one of his workers do it for him and we all know those guys can't be trusted one bit.

okay, giving you my name or sending an e-mail to would not be kept just within the city. Come on, people at the city keep their mouth shut about something like this. Oh please, this is gossip that everyone loves and lives by.

The only one that is making a difference at the city is the Mayor. The commissioners on the other hand, lets just say I didn't vote for them. Mr. Saldivar is making positive changes but I don't know about the city workers.

As far as the "$26,000 as City Administrator" WOW.
No wonder the gallon price of water went up.

Look, I didn't reply back to David to start shit. I just wanted to shed some light on the topics everyone talks about at their houses but are afraid to talk about it at the city meetings.

I commend you for using the correct terms "Cheto Citizen" but when you reply back to this (and I'm sure you will) 2 words "SPELL CHECK" Hey if your going to be using the correct terms you might also want to spell check.

As for Linda Riojas, she did clear some violations for the City that were here for as long as I can remember. She cleared the violation of the tanks that were sitting by Mr. Bustamante's property, the sewer violation, and the dumping site violation by the old water tower. The previous City Council did their best for this community as well. The only thing different is that some residents from Cheto wanted someone from here, that graduated from here to be their Mayor. I believe that no matter when you were born or raised if you live here, you want whats best for your community, and that's what the previous Mayor was doing, we just didn't give him a chance. One thing I know for sure is that the City election is just around the corner.

As for Linda Riojas, she might of cleared some violations but the bottom line is that she stole from the City. Honestly, do you want our town to go down the drain just like our school did. All cause cause of people like her. Ummmm, I don't.

I'm also looking forward to the elections. Maybe someone will be willing to come forward and attempt to make a noticable difference in Asherton. I know what you idiots are thinking..."Why don't you run?" I'd rather not. I have to much to worry about with my family. I wouldn't want to let the people of Cheto down.

how do you know that linda riojas stole from the city? Was she charged with something in regards to theft or is there any public record that suggests this? as far as I know, she hasn't. This is all hot air. Anyways she is no longer working for the city, so why she does matter.

as for Alex "Gator" Garza and his pending drug charges, I agree with Cheto Citizen. Until he is found guilty, its all a rumor.

Just where are these positive changes that Mr. Saldivar has been making. i have yet to see any improvements to city streets, declining population, budget deficit and so forth. The only thing keeping the city alive is in fact the Elementary and pretty soon that will be gone. Thanks Carrizo Springs Consolidated Independent School District for killing Asherton.

Some people see the changes being done to this little town and some don't or fail to acknowledge them. Maybe to some people what Mayor Saldivar is doing is not enough but I think he's doing an excellent job. It took many years to bring this city down and it's going to take some years to bring this city back up. Just because we don't see the improvements to the streets doesn't mean that nothing is being done. I urge all citizens of Asherton to go to the city meetings to find out for themselves what is actually going on in the city and what Mayor Saldivar is doing. Mayor Saldivar has had to tackle many issues since he was voted into office. First of all, the City of Asherton was not in good standing with ORCA, therefore the city was not able to obtain any grants for improvements. As mentioned in one of the city meetings Mayor Saldivar is working to clear these issues with ORCA and working with an engineer to apply for grants for street, water, and sewer improvements. The city's budget was in a deficit in the past but as mentioned in the Mayor's report the city seems to be in a surplus. These are just a few of the many administrative issues the Mayor has tackled and seem to have corrected.

Now for the improvements that are visible: I witnessed the Mayor and City Commissioners themselves covering pot holes and cutting grass. The Plazita looks much cleaner and has been beautified, the park is also much cleaner. Have you noticed the city itself looks much cleaner? Not to mention, the cemetary is also looking much better. This administration cannot do miracles but it sure seems that they are doing the best they can with what little budget and resources they have.

At this point, it's not about talking bad about anyone, it's about coming together as a tight and close community we once were to make this city better. Open your eyes to reality and see the positive things that are happening here in Asherton. We need to do away with the negativity and support our current administration.

Great job Mayor Saldivar and City Commissioners!

I believe it was Asherton's school board, that was elected by the people of Asherton, that killed the district, and thus, the town. You fail to remember that the Carrizo school district paid off your debts when they took you over and is having to sustain an elementary school that is barely staying above water - accountability-wise. You have no one but yourselves to blame for the problems in your community.

Just get over it already. How about you and "Por vida de dios" ask Gary, Igo, and Sam what was going on that day and get back to us all.
