The following I hope can become a civilized dialog among some of the citizen and former citizens of Cheto. I know that we will probably have some flame wars on here but here goes. You know I come on this topix forum from time to time and it never ceases to amaze me how much trash, hate, lies, gossip, and etc is spewed on here. Rarely do we come on this board to offer any time of constructive criticism to help the state of the town or its citizen. Instead we have threads saying someone stole gas, a city official is sleeping around, we are bitching about the Mayor, and etc. I, like all of you have my flaws. I'm not perfect. I grew up in the small town known as Asherton,TX. I have and will always be proud to be a Trojan. I have many things I miss from back home that I know I will never be able to get back. What I don't miss is the gossip and hate we had for those that went on to do greater and better things. For those who strive to better their condition whatever it may be. I've recently made a couple of trips home and it sadden me to see the state of my hometown. To see the gym burned down, Trojan Stadium crumbling to the ground, and school long gone. I don't have the resources needed to help out my hometown. Such as time and money. I doubt anyone back home can help. The city is on a decline but what we can do is instill within the future generation a chance for hope. Push your children in school. Teach them to dream and never give up. Also I challenge all of you who read this to stop the gossip and the hate. Focus that energy on something positive. Become those seeds of change. I hope my message won't fall on deaf ears. Whatever happens I know I will always carry Asherton with me. It is never forgotten. Que Vivan Los Trojans!

We all use them, some of us more eloquent then others. Some of us know big overbearing ones, other only plain and simple ones. They come in all different shapes and sizes. They are used by both old and young alike and are no respecter of either Race or Creed. They are everyday and yet powerfully magical. I am of course talking about words. As Children most of us have been taught over and over again that: "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!" Sadly of course most of us can not abide by this wise saying. We use thousands of Words daily and most of them are a pure waste of breath. We all know those that talk only for the joy of hearing their own Voice with nothing to contribute of any value at all. Words like Love, Hate, Anxiety, and Friendship are just throw away words in our Society. We love this and that, give our love to almost complete Strangers while we hate the way we look, the way something tastes etc. Words no longer seem to have any real meaning to us. They are just something to fill up the emptiness and silence in a Room. We get surprised when our wishes come true. How often have you wished someone or something out of your life in anger? How often have you told a person that you hated their guts, only to find out later that something bad had befallen that same person? What about in your relationship? How often have you spoken ill of your Partner and have been spiteful, mean spirited, wished them gone from you? Told them you would like nothing better then for them to disappear from your life?

I really enjoyed these two postings. If you noticed, no one else is saying anything. Are people only interested when it's about bashing someone? I guess the above postings are way above Cheto's level. Again,I found them very interesting.

I was hoping people would come on here and try to offer solutions to some of the problems plaguing the town.

Trojan Warrior is right, no problem is bad enough that we can't make it worse by flapping our gums and spreading more negativaty. It's fascinating how some people are not just happy seeing shit all around them, they have to roll around in it also. The crabs in a bucket mentality that is so prevalent in Cheto is almost like an illness. The problems that beset our town are as numerous as they are varied. More over they did not happen over night. It is going to take alot of time and energy to slove them. If some people would use half the energy the use bing negative to do something positive there is no limit to what they could do. My memories of growing up in that dusty little town are not tied to a building or the football field, it is the people I shared those expieriences with that make Asherton Cheto. It will be these same people coming together who will save our town. After all, it is the people who make up the town, not the other way around!

Excellent post Old Trojan! You are right though the people make up the town. I too miss my dusty hometown from time to time.
You bring up a good point about change and it not happening over night. I believe that change is going to be hard for those set in their ways but the children are the future and the key. Our children can be that change that we need to have this town rise out of the ashes.
We also need to come together as a community and focus on the problems plaguing the town. Come up with plans and alternatives to the current state of things. Let us not focus what is already done but let us focus on what can be done going forward.

Asherton is dead as a City! What is left in Cheto but a lot of old people and many drunks? Everybody posting in here is from OUT of town. Eventually the state is going to have to come down and run the city for you, or they will disband it like Catarina! Then Dimmit County will pick up the trash and provide water for you. At least it will be Clean water.

thats why cheto is the way it is we cant have anything here, because little punks like breaking in to every bussiness that opens, What we need to do is keep these punks. But is is chetos citizens fault the way it is here, they never spoke up when our school closed down, I had always wanted to grauate from here but i didnt. But you people just (flap you pie hoes). And for so many years someone was running for you people always voted for the same person you all never wanted a change here. So now i think we have a very nice mayor and hes does alot for this town. Thats what you people get fo not speaking up in the past. We are the way we are cause of the past,so dont be blaeming any one too! you all made your children go to CS school and thats wrong we all didnt need to go .But think bout the past mayor he was never there to save our School,He was always in the city hall, which they longer use anymore!

I hate to agree with Always Trojan a bit. I was sad when the school closed down. It was something I never thought would happen in my lifetime. People will always try to point fingers at certain people but I think the whole community dropped the ball on the school situation. We all elected these officials to lead us and in the end we were led astray. I don't blame some of the families that ended up moving their kids to Carrizo ISD way before the school closed down. They just wanted what was best for their kids future. A lot of those families and kids were then socially outcast from Cheto. People snickered at them or talked behind their backs for making the move. As for the water situation I really do believe something needs to be done. Isn't there a way we can get a petition of some sort or look into some grant money to improve the water quality in Asherton?

Always trojan, why is it the "citizens" fault ashertons school got shut down. Now you think you have a nice mayor! Is he going to save what is left of your school. Is that what he is telling the citizens of Cheto?
Trojan Warrior, you are trying to blame the whole community for bankrupting Asherton ISD. What? Try the board members that did it. Blame the right people, the few people who served on the board. When you the people elect someone to serve on the board, you had better elect somebody that will make the right decision, not somebodies best friend.
Water situation, contact the Mayor, but he may be driving around selling DVD's.

Yeah but who elected the board? Thats right the citizens did. I'm not trying to bash the whole town but I'm calling how I see it. We are all to blame in that situation. We elected those people to be on the board.

Trojan Warrior, do you have any information on the lawsuit, I looked and cannot find any. In the researching, I talked to several Asherton individuals who talked freely about the school board asherton had, and they keep talking about a Nun? Any ideas.

Because politics had always tainted the way school business was conducted, it was no suprise things turned out the way they did. When incompetence and corruption became the coin of the realm, the collapse of A.I.S.D. was just a matter of time. Our inability to elect a board that could work together, and for the best interests of the kids, only proved that we were incapable of, and thus undeserving of keeping our school. The kids should always have been the main focus. Because we lost sight of that, the kids are better off going to school in Carrizo. Unfortunately that ment the end of Asherton High, but the kids deserve to get the best education they can get. There is plenty of blame to go around, but there is nothing to be gained by pointing fingers. Asherton will only be able to get out of the hole it finds it's self in, when we stop digging. Only by getting involved in the process of improving things will it get turned around. This means not just trying to find fault, but finding out what needs to be done and doing it. The people of Cheto need to realize that their participation does not end at the polling booth, it begins there. No matter who wins the election, you need to support them, and demand that they do what is best for the community. I was a few years older than the new mayor, he seemed like a good kid. He has his work cut out for him, and I wish him the best. Know this, he will only be as good as the support he gets, the rest will be up to you good citizens of Cheto.

Old trojan, I agree with about everything you said, but the last sentence. I was personally there when he spread false rumors about the bond. We need a Mayor we can trust. If we as Asherton Citizens can't trust him, are we going forward or backwards? I you have any questions about the schools closing go to the source! Do not trust him, he seems to be like all the rest. El mentiros corre en la sangre.

If I remember correctly, we had a superintendant (Woosley)that bought so much unneeded items with money borrowed from the state (TEA) that when it came back to start paying back, his plan to pay the money back failed. That is why he state shut us down. It wasn’t the mayor’s fault. The attendance was never low in Cheto. Cheto never had any problems in getting books or equipment needed for school. Even if more than half of our books were old, they were still useable. I wish my kids could have been graduates of Asherton High as I was. The School shutting down does not give us the right to give up on our town. We still need to help each other to better our little pueblito.

The funny thing about the Mayor and others including Mr. Bustamante is that they want to fight to keep Asherton's school open but send their kids to the Carrizo campuses.
Does anyone see something wrong with that?

They want their children to have the best education possible. That is why they are sending their children to Carrizo. They are fighting a losing battle. What really pisses me off is the mouthing and the lying to the public that they are doing. Tell the truth. Oh, well, Asherton is full of Crabs! There are some good people there, but few and far between!

Hi Reaper...I know Ive been quiet but its with a purpose. Ive been keeping a close eye and gathering information on other problems that will soon be addressed. I''m doing some research on this topic, "Tha Facts" will be joining in this topic soon!! All I have to state right now is that the Mayor and Mr. Bustamante shouldnt be lying to the citizens of Asherton. It is really wrong to feed on the dreams and memories of these citizens to try and make themselves look good by giving these citizens false hope. What everybody need to remember is that there are laws, state laws at that, that need to be followed. Just because the Mayor and the Commissioners do whatever they want to at City Hall without following procedure, doesnt mean its legal. Mostly they do it cause they know the citizens of Asherton usually just keep quiet. Thats ok cause I would love to see them pull this "Rabbit" out of their hats especially now when it deals with the state!! I personally am not hating on the "Governing Body of Asherton" but it really does upset me when they do or say things like this!! For the Ex's who have voiced their opinion about Cheto....I know it saddens you it saddens me too, but what you all need realize is that you all have moved out and are now just Ex'es looking in. I dont mean this in a wrong way. Dont get me wrong, once a Trojan always a Trojan!! But I can guarantee that if you were actually still citizens of Asherton, your view point would not be the same. The Governing Body of Asherton "HAS" done alot, but when it really comes down to it, it only matters what Mr. Saldivar, Mr Bustamante, and Mr. Garza have to say. I really do wish their statement could come true. But in all honesty their statement is nothing more than empty words with a political twist. Anyways like I've said there are tons of laws and regulations that will probably keep this dream from becoming a reality but I will do my best to get you (citizens of Asherton) "Tha Facts" instead of opinion. I know some of you people will come on here to bash me, call me ignorant or etc. But to tell you the truth I dont mind it. I'm here to state "Tha Facts" and it just so happens that the truth hurts and people dont like to here it!!
