it's so pathetic how self proffessed buisness wizard carrol mclarty has fooled so many citizens of ashdown.....his manufactured letters to the little river news are jokes...full of vague self-serving references without any FACTS.......funny he neglects to mention thos jobs HE brought to Lubbock ahve vanished and the company, flemming, is in backruptcy and under investigation for stock price manipulation.....he make grand statements on his web site...statments that can NEVER be fullfilled..the city council makes the final decisions...NOT THE MAYOR...and by the way, clean up ashdown? who is going to pay for that.....

Mclarty or anyone who can be on the job full time would beat what we got. The one in office can't manage his own finances let alone Ashdown's pitiful situation.

Carroll Mclarty has to be the most arrogant person I've ever met in my life. He left Ashdown to pursue his career and then 40 years later comes back and ruins the lions club and then thinks he has what takes to make great changes in the city? HA HA HA... what a moron! HE doesn't even know that mayor can't make all those changes he tells people HE will make.... The council makes the decisions and the mayor sees they get done. Joe, what an idiot to say what you say... the mayors personal finances have nothing to do with city's finances... Mayor Reed has done an excellent job for the city of Ashdown. If you wanna see real change, though, rotate your council members out every once in while... they are the ones who really make the city what it is...

You are right about one thing jack ass, the city council does need a good housecleaning. Is bankrupt in your vocabulary. How the hell do you think the man can manage the city of Ashdown's financial situation when you can't keep your own out of the red. With you not being a idiot I don't believe you would trust him to take care of your pittance. I do know that my water bill has doubled while Reed has been in office. Who gives a rats ass about the lions club. What in the hell does that have to do with being a good mayor. Heck the man moved 40 years ago probably because of no jobs and he wanted a better life for his family and he moved back here because he and his wife were born and raised here. Maybe if he is arrogant he will get the things done around Ashdown. You must have voted for Obama too. Reed's out Mclarty is in. You can run for city council yourself and help our new Mayor Mclarty come January

Umm Have you verified this bankruptcy that people keep talking about? It's public record ya know. Obviously you are ignorant to the financial business of city government. The mayor does not spend the money. The council does. How on earth did your water bill double LOL, the COUNCIL, not Mayor Reed, raised the minimum, before you get into those higher rates. My family of four uses less then the what the minimum is now which effectively lowered my bill. Obviously you don't know that when Mclarty was the president of the lions club he caused so much internal strife between the members, who had been there for many years , that membership declined and so did the bank. I'd like to see how he is going to make all these changes and street repairs all the while not spending any money.... at least that is what he's told people. He is going to just stop spending money... Those state auditors will sure have fun with him when he starts trying to move money around from account to account after he realizes that contrary to his own belief, you have to spend money to operate. However if the citizens of Ashdown want change that bad then they deserve him. Maybe if he wins and that idiot Gary Gregory wins the sheriff's election they can both comfort each other in federal prison when they mess up.

Oh and btw you do know that this company that mclarty is so proud of was sanctioned by the sec for fraud, right? And that he was named in the actions in court as being a participant in the financial operations of one of the regions of the copmany...

The incumbent is always under the gun, in any race... Has Mayor Reed done anything, in your opinion, that would make you think he's not a capable candidate? If so what?

Well the people of Ashdown have spoken. They have voted for a change. I sure hope that McClarty can do every thing that he has said he can do in the four years he has to prove it. It's not likely that he can change a whole lot of what he has said he CAN do. It looks like he has a Council that will be divided. My prediction is that he will see real quick that the Mayor has very little power, and the council is who really runs the city. I understand that there may be an independent candidate, in November, who has a lot of experience in how a City is run. Maybe the citizens of Ashdown will have another opportunity to elect someone with experience in Municipal business.

ashdown needs more business. there is no other business in ashdown but walmart, brookshires, what about beall department store or jack in the box. or sears. whats wrong with ashdown every other small town has got you beat. also the picture on the start of this web site is a picture of hot springs. if someone comes to ashdown they would be disapointed. that is false advertisment.

What's wrong with Ashdown? Texarkana is what is wrong. They have more stuff to offer. More jobs= more people working over there. More people working over there means more people spend money over there before coming back to there sleepy little town. No way is there anyway you're going to get a national chain like beals or sears to come to Ashdown, the customer base is way to small

Our city is in for a big wake up!!! Mclarty is a one term mayor who wants to shake things up, not really make things better in the long haul! I hope I'm wrong and he makes changes that last for years to come

lets just see what mcClarty is going to do. if it doesn't work out the same way he got in will be the same way he leave. but ashdown needs a lot of changes.......... where is the sport of competition with stores. as is none of these stores have competition, well maybe brookshire and walmart and shurway. but each of these stores have unique items that can on;y be found in their stores. as for clothes. walmart doesn't have much to offer. we need more, ashdown needs more. look at nashville, dequeen, hope. these places have a lot of stores that have competition for buyers. and all of the stores are doing well. more stores more job opportunity. that is a lot to think about.
