I don't know how you came up with the misguided idea that I am jealous of the cops because they are more successful than I am; but it is complete nonsense. Things have turned out pretty well for me. Of course, a lifetime of hard work is at the core of my success.<quoted text>
All taxpayers believe that government workers are overpaid. Remember when the paper mills and Digital Corporation were around in the 70' and 80's. Those people were earning 3 times as much as the cops and firefighters. No one wanted to be a city worker then because of the low pay.
The paper workers and Digital employees were driving around in their big luxury cars and were the ones with their big homes back then. Oh well, times change and so does the job market. 401k's tanked. Need for paper decreased and technology became cheaper to produce.
No one complained back then about the salaries of cops/firefighters because everyone was earning more than them.
But the low class mentality that can only be found in Fitchburg is thriving. Other communities are laughing at us. It's the "if I can't have a professional career and great pay then why should they?" mentality.
In other communities the residents endorse and encourage each other to further advance themselves in salary and careers but not here in the burg where people get jealous and angry if someone is more successful than themselves.
Go to the North shore where all the high tech companies are (Teledyne, Boston Scientific, etc.) and it's just the opposite. In those communities cops/firefighters are still perceived as underpaid as the paper pushers in the tech companies are earning $100K-$300K annually.
I admit that I do not get paid time and a half pay; with a 4 hour minimum; for doing nothing whasover at police details (like the police do); but that does not mean that I am jealous. Fed up and disgusted whenever I see it; yes. But jealous, no.
