102 is a little much, putting a lot of people risk at that speed.

I saw the interview of this couple on the news. The wife, in trying to defend her lead footed husband, said that he didn't realize how fast he was going because he was on his cell phone at the time.

Let that sink in.

Going 100+ mph and distracted by a cell phone and a woman in labor in the seat next to him. He's lucky they made it to the hospital in one piece.

It depends on the car. 100 mph in a Porsche is not the same as in a Prius.

A prius has a speedometer? Anywho this guy was certainly flying, I've gotten my motorcycle up to that speed before and I certainly don't recommend doing it so many variables and anything could happen.

It's not the same? I used to race motorcycles. 100 mph is 100 mph no matter what you are driving.

After pulling the guy over, the police gave him an escort to the hospital. Judge will reduce the ticket amount, but I think the cop did the right thing.

The guy was never pulled over. I wish more than two media outlets would get the story right. When the officer was behind him, he was on the phone with 911 they alerted the office who in turned pulled in front of them for the escort.

The cop did the right thing. His job is to enforce the laws, and 102 mph is way above the legal speed limit, so he did his job and issued the ticket. Let the judge do his job and judge the situation and determine the fine. If he lets the guy off without a fine he just sets others up to do the same foolish stunt. Let the punishment fit the crime, and it is up to the judge to decide the just punishment, not the cop.

I also make no claim here as to what the outcome should be, however if he was really on the cell phone while driving 102 mph then that surely is driving to endanger himself and others.

The Officer did the absolute right thing, the driver risked the lives of himself, his wife, his unborn child, and everyone else who happened upon him.

I fully agree, speed was excessive. He could have killed himself, his wife and baby, plus other innocents. Should have called an ambulance. But then again, who am I to judge; the guy was probably panic-stricken.

You are 100% correct had he ended up killing himself, wife and unborn child along with any other innocent person people would be screaming bloody murder. "Can hear how that would have gone now those "*&*(&(*& police did nothing". Police just cannot win damned when they do and god help them if they had not stopped him. 911 is there for a reason.

how fast would the ambulance go in an emergency? And I'm curious as to how fast the officer was going when he escorted the couple to the hospital. Was it like when they escort those big double-wide trailer houses down the highway? Or was there more urgency? lol

I've passed ambulances many times on the highway. They tend to stick within the speed limit, maybe 5mph over at best.

Cars really should have speed limiters much lower than what they're set at now. No one really needs to go above 85mph.
