Afew months ago an article on the selectmen's agenda had to do with the fact Mary Kraft (who was head of the BOH at the time was questioned on why the bill for the trash transfer station were not being mailed up and payment being fiopllowed up on. We never heard any more on this naturally, so how if our town government can't even run an accounts receivable program properly (or at all) are we suppose to think they could run a high volume program. I would apreciate it if someone out there knows the outcome or resolution of the payments due the town from the trash haulers, they would post for the rest of us or was it just "put aside" like everything else in this town that causes a stir. Waiting for an answer

Everyone should do themselves a favor and buy the Monadnock Ledger and read the reporting about Peterborough's recycling efforts and the money it brings in. If memory serves, they bring in thousands monthly and they show how much money was actually saved by not sending it to a transfer station as trash. And, to make it even better, the town official in charge of the program actually writes a comprehensive report monthly. The Ledger publishes the report and EVERYBODY in that town knows the status. It appears to be a well run town and is served by a well run, well written newspaper.

Perhaps our town officials should visit Peterborough and learn something.

In all farness Steve Peterborough is no comparison to Ashby, they have an industrial tax base and a population that is a the very least 3 times that of Ashby. But I do see what you are saying! Ashby needs to again look at the people who are running things.

You're right. Peterborough is a larger town. Population in 2006 was just over 6,000. So, about twice the size of Ashby in that regard. They do have an industrial base, etc. However, what I'm saying is that if our town officials would visit with the people who run the recyclables center for Peterborough, they may learn something and be able to incorporate a similiar plan on a smaller scale.

From what I know about balers, they are relatively inexpensive. Again, learn from people who are doing it today and let's not try and re-invent the wheel.

Ya Don ....only the ones in Power who can not even begin to fathom the problems or cost involved in rationalization...(lest we forget that at least one of our Selectman's family was for the rationalization with the Townsend school system way back when... ooohh! Ya!) All they can see is that the $ and problems will be another Town's headache!

That is all that matters to Ashby's BOS!

Daily Horoscope for December 2

Capricorn

The Gemini Full Moon brings situations at work to a head; there may be a sudden event that shakes up the office, but you should be free and clear of any real trouble. The real issue is the one you have most likely been avoiding: what sort of state is your health in? Have you been buying larger pants each year for the past three or four years in a row? Is your idea of strenuous exercise scooping hard ice cream out of the carton? If so, it's time for some changes.
