Full story: Sentinel & Enterprise

This is a state formula and Westminster was warned about this being adopted over a year ago. Yes, both Ashburnham and Westminster have benefited from time to time with the old formula for many years, and the wealth formula could also shift the same way, but probably not. When Mr. Fairbanks states that they do not have the money when they have several stabilization accounts that have over $1m in each of them, it is a little hard to take.

Not sure if the reporter got the "facts" wrong or what, but Westminster was made aware that Ashburnham was going to do this method last year. If the Westminster AB did not tell anyone in town then that is their problem. This was made public last year.

For 50+ years both towns did what is best for the students of BOTH towns and followed the regional agreement. A number of years ago when the Wealth model was discussed it would have hurt Ashburnham badly and the students of BOTH town even more.

Westminster agreed to follow the regional agreement. Since that time Westminster ha paid over 1,000,000 more to the school district, and thereby helping our fellow town, by off-setting the amount they would have to pay.. What happens now - The first year the wealth model favors our fellow town Westminster get hit with it.

SO MUCH FOR NO GOOD DEAD GOES UNPUNISHED. While watching the school board meeting on cable going to this wealth model will do nothing but force either 14 or 26 positions to be lost...

To our fellow town - Wake up - your killing the school and the education of BOTH towns children. Being penny wise is also being pound foolish

In watching both towns selectmens meeting. There has been a number of discussions with Ashburnham to regionalize this and that.. No way, Fool me one, never again.

It would be fair to both towns to let the amount we over-paid to help Ashburnham go down to zero and then go to the wealth model.

Why should the state tell us how to fund our schools when we have been doing a good job since 1958.

I was in the 7th graduating class and it worked well for me at that time as my grand kids last year.

Shame on you Ashburnham Selectmen - Follow the regional agreement that you signed.
