Good for those guys...

Although standing up and making a big deal of it is not my style, the current political situation in this area probably warrants it. Some of the components in VA need to realize that VA is VA law, and that the counties surrounding the District aren't somehow special in their ability to deny their citizens the same rights as the rest of the state.

For me, seeing a patron with a carry makes me feel safer. I know that people that carry happen to be some of the most responsible folks in society, and I may one day rely on one of them to save my life or that of my family should I not have a weapon on me.

As for the drunkards with guns remarks... Just because you are able to carry in establishments that SERVE alcohol, doesn't mean that you can CONSUME alcohol. I mean, you can also drive to those establishments, but we all know that you cannot drink and drive, or drive drunk.

While I mostly agree with Bill - minus the name calling (Bill, why stoop to their level?)- the only other thing I would add is that while the 2nd Amendment should be my permit, I don't think I even need that. I think that the 2nd Amendment merely recognizes and acknowledges the fact that my right to defend myself precedes any government authority. I don't NEED the constitution to be able to defend myself, it merely affirms that right inherent in humans.

I am for guns but only in the hands of those who are responsible to handle them properly, unfortunately there are too many punks that have guns that use them to rob innocent people. I say, let everyone carry a gun. Let someone try and rob me in my home and try and steal what I worked hard to earn, they won't be walking out the same way they got in. Maybe if we were able to carry guns, there would be less crime.

Millions of citizens own millions of guns yet they never murder or use them irresponsibly. Its criminals we need to worry about. We have a society that doesnt hold certain minorites acountable for their behavior yet seeks to deprive the rest of us the rights our founding fathere secured us.

Pandora, you are able to carry in VA...unless you are a felon or with documented mental defect. You are correct though, the more responsible people carry guns, the less opportunity for the bad guys to create victims there is.

To answer your question in a more direct manner, John R. Lott wrote an entire about the relationship of people carrying weapons and their effect on crime.

It sure to make a lot of people very nervous. And could back fire if a store owner thinks that he's going to be robbed.

people who are afraid, think of it this way, there are two kinds of people that carry guns, 1, thugs who who cant aim and usually miss and 2, responsible individuals that are interested in protecting themselves, these people usually know how to shoot, semi trained and dont carry the 'thug mentality'.
So, its kind of simple, which one of these would you like to sit next to you and your family next time you go out and eat???

Ok...if I was eating dinner with these folks and a bunch of them showed me their weapons, I don't think I'd say anything either. Why voice an opinion that may escalate into an argument? A cheeseburger and a beer is not worth potentially picking a fight with a crowd of armed people.

Who told you they had any drinks? The article said that the OTHER patrons went back to their Burgers and Buds. It said nothing about the gun bearers drinking. But as usual liberals will make their case any way they can, making things up if needed.

Wonder why so many thugs carry guns? It is because they KNOW that MOST potential victims will NOT have one. That is fact.

EXCELLENT!! great stuff, a move in the right direction. Anyone who has a problem with this can suck a@$ IMO.
Anti-gun nit wits just can't stand to admit that this will definitely reduce crime, and the people who carry like this are probably the last ones who would ever carjack, rob, or go on rampages like this little Cho POS at VA tech. In fact, they could prevent a rampage scenario from ever happening by their presence alone.

I'll also bet that joint didn't get robbed by a bunch of punks that night either.

I applaud lawful gun owners. It is possibly the only barrier that separates us from the violent crime that exists in this area. Police cannot be everywhere. Calling 911 is after the fact. Protect yourselves.

What happened here? The post abruptly stopped. I will just say that the peoples rights should not be challenged by Gov't or any persons. We should hold our "Bill of Rights" to a high standard. All the Amendments are important....Therefore all Americans SHALL defend them or, Simply...Be Silent.

I wish we could do that in Maryland, I lived in Virginia at one time and had a carry permit, now i live in maryland, and can't carry a pea shooter...thats BULLSH**. Every person in this country has the right to CARRY a gun, something needs to be done to make this happen in EVERY state. If i try to protect myself and my family in maryland, i am now a criminal because of some stupid as* laws.
