I don't doubt that smooth jazz was a great station, but I think everybody is giving the new station a little too much hell. While they did take away smooth jazz, Washington hasn't had a good oldies station for years! It's all been "classic rock." I'm not even an older person and I still enjoy it. I was sad to see smooth jazz go but the oldies station deserves some credit too.

Unbelievable. I can't imagine any plausible explanation for the departure of the best radio station in town without a reason given to its loyal fans. What can we do now! There must be some way to appeal to those who made the decision.

I am still shocked that Smooth Jazz 105.9 has been replaced with an Oldies format! Oldies are for OLD PEOPLE! Smooth Jazz was always a relaxing and welcome escape from the stressful daily routine of living in DC. We will especially miss the Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch. The station owners should seriously consider bringing Smooth Jazz back, OR ELSE!
I was very disappointed to learn of the demise of smooth jazz. As far as I know there aren't any alternatives for relaxing music in this area. I used to live in the Boston area and the same thing happened. The smooth jazz station was replaced by a country-western station. Talk about going from one extreme to another! I don't bother listening to music on the radio anymore.

I was very disappointed to learn that smooth jazz was replaced with an oldies station. I lived in the Boston area for 12 years and the same thing happened. The smooth jazz station was replaced with a country-western station. Talk about extremes! It seems to be an epidemic across the country. If I drive on a long distance trip it is very difficult to find a smooth jazz station. I suppose that as long as you're willing to listen to the endless amount of crap that pervades the airways, then it's no big deal. But if you prefer to listen to great music by great artists, it's a very sad time indeed.

I am so upset that you have taken away the only Jazz relaxing station in the area. It was my only out in the mornings from the other talk radio that I am not interested in. We are doomed! You can't relax to gossip and hip hop the others offer. Please reconsider!

i had been listening to smooth jazz 105.9 since the day it was created in late 1994. I still remember the moment it was aired. I heard that first smooth jazz song of "smooth operator" in late 1994. But i never got to know when it ended. In March while i was driving I was very shocked to he hear what I am hearing. I knew at once something is very wrong. Since then i have never turned on my car radio. I now burn smooth jazz cd's through napster and hear them in my car. It is really unbelievable that they think oldies sound better than smooth jazz.

oldies r awesome, i can understand that all you people are sad that your favorite station has been canceled, but dont take your anger out on oldies. I myself was never a fan of jazz but i do have tons of respect for jazz musicians, so ppl dont take it the wrong way when i say that its great to see an all exclusive oldies station. one question, though; doesnt 100.3 play classic rock + other styles of oldies too??

I, too, was saddened to learn that Smooth Jazz was gone. I switched on my car radio and heard - OLDIES!!! While I do like oldies, I could always turn to Smooth Jazz to "relax and unwind" at the end of the day.

Smooth Jazz will be greatly missed.

It was my dream to have a CD of all good songs played on old 105.9 smooth Jazz. I never knew that this will happen in flash without any notice. I am still looking for some assistance in offering me a list of good artists names and songs that we use to hear. Or if I can borrow some one's CD. Please some one help .... I was recently reading Amit's comment but without Artist's name and songs wording I am not able to access the right songs. I would like to collect as many CD as possible so that I could play perticular song at the perticular time of the day to suit my mood.

Wow!

Bostonian - every radio station in Beantown is gone! Was just home and no music whatsoever. Everyone have their own music in their car and home. It's like a ghost town in Beantown without no radio station.

Why would you get rid of a station that provided some much good music, adult music..I am so upset and shocked to find that you got rid of that station. I won't ever listen to your station again until you bring back the smooth Jazz. we have enough of those oldies stations and your is not even a good one.

Please have something for Grown people to listen and relax to.. Bring back the smooth jazz please !!!!!!!

This was one of the reasons I moved back to this area. 105.9 this seriously sucks big time. What the Hell? Oldies? are you kidding me? I bet 105.9 is owned by some out of touch Washington talking head, just goes to show you, Don't !%$* with a good thing.

We should start our own station.

I really can't see how anyone would miss hearing the same 20 songs played OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN! ALL of the shows were recordings for months!!!! Not to mention that the contests they ran were ridiculous because only people with names that were barely pronouncable won. THAT STATION SUCKED A LOT!!!!!!!!!! Oldies are at least tolerable, and keep you from falling asleep.

SERIOUSLY YOU"VE GOT TO BE KIDING! 105.9 has a new format and I think it is great. It is wonderful to listen to a station that has music I grew up with. The owners amde a wise choice by changing from the hum-drum elevator music or something I would hear in a dentist office! I have already called them to comment on their wise choice of changing to a better satation. Two thumbs up to something great!

Try listening to 104.3. I know it's a Baltimore station, but those in the metropolitan area can get it. For others in VA, seems like the only other alternative is 96.3
Sad to say Baltimore has lost their Smooth Jazz station too. WSMJ got the axe the same weekend.
