Now...go ahead and speed if you can afford it! See below

With the start of the new year, Georgia’s new “super speeder law” goes into effect.

Any driver convicted of speeding at 75 miles per hour or more on a two-lane road or 85 mph or more on divided highways will pay an additional $200 state fee.

The new fee will be collected separately and in addition to local fines in the jurisdiction where the speeding offense occurred.

Failure to pay the “super speeder” fee will result in an additional $50 fee and the suspension of the offender’s license.

This money will be used to help fund Georgia’s trauma care hospital system that treats about 60% of all crash victims.

Yup,seen those signs a few weeks ago while running the "Watermelon 500" (I-285 around Atlanta). Better keep your foot out of the accelerator.

Well, speeding is wrong, no doubt. I was going to FL for our Xmas break, got pulled over by GA cop on GA401 in the county of Dooly. It was 10:30 pm. The max speed limit there is 70mph. The cop said I was going 81mph, hmm, not possible but let's say it is true. He gave me the citation and told me to sign it. I told him I want to first read what it is I am about to sign and the cop said "Sign it now or you will be arrested" WOW. I signed it, he drove away, I read the citation and another WOW...it says I was going 88mph not 81 as he earlier said. I had 5 other people in my van and all heard him say I was going 11 miles over the speed limit! Now what? If I go to court (live in IL) what is it am I supposed to tell the judge? That the cop lied? Is he going to believe me? I was shocked!

for your information...we do tackle real crimes, however some officers are assigned as a traffic unit and their sole purpose is to enforce traffic laws of the state. don't blame us because you speed and we catch you...and how about if you ever need our help you just call a crack head instead...other wise slow down or shut up!
I have no problem admitting when I am wrong. I was doing 82 in a 70 at mile marker 83. The Ashburn police officer said he lasered me doing 85. My speedometer and my garmin both said 82 - I had cruise control set. I have a brand new car that had 2100 miles on it at the time of my ticket. My problem is that the officer put my speed at 85 so the new $200 state of georgia super speeder fine would go into effect. If the officer had given me the ticket for 82 in a 70, I would pay it and not say anything because I was wrong, I was speeding. But to say that I was doing 85 when I clearly was not is NOT FAIR!!!! The officer did this because I am from Florida and he doesn't think I will go back to fight it. What should be a $207 ticket is now $407 - I have a real problem with someone lying to make more money. As a "LAW MAN" police officers should be honest and moral and the officer that stopped me was dishonest - he lied to me about my speed and lied to me about not knowing how much my ticket would be and he lied to me about not knowing about the new super speeder law. I am sure that all police officers in the state of Georgia no matter what municipality, knew on 1/1/10 that the new law went into effect.

I was ticketed and told to call the number on the back of the ticket for a court date. When I called the number on the back of the ticket they said I had to write the court requesting a court date. I've never even heard of that! So I wrote in to request a court date on February 24th. No response. So I call yesterday, Monday, March 8, to see if i can find out when the court date is, they tell me the court date is Wednesday the 10th! I am supposed to get from St. Louis, MO to Ashburn, GA with 2 days notice? When I asked the clerk why I was required to write the court to request a court date if they were going to give me one anyway, she gave me some smart ass answer even though she was the one who told me I had to write the court. This place is a big trap and they are crooked as the day is long. I hope someone exposes these hillbillies for who they are.

Lawdog sounds like an idiot. If there was no problem in that area, then there wouldn't be 80 plus complaints on this forum for the hick town of Ashburn. When you Google the town of Ashburn, GA, searches for "speeding trap" and "speeding ticket" automatically come up. That says alot right there. A cop who sits around and patrols the internet to bully people who have legitimate complaints about their shady tactics is the same guy who became a cop because he got his butt kicked all through school.

I got my first speeding ticket ever while driving thru Ashburn GA to TN at 11:30 pm on 8/14/09. Drove the speed limit thru all the construction areas like I was suppose to. Most of the speed limits were between 55 or 60. Finally, at that point there were no more cones, or signs stating we were still in a constructions area and the speed limit moved up to 65 then the last one to 70. When the officer pulled me over, he said that I was speeding in a 60 zone...I was shocked, and told him that it showed 70,he also stated that the speed limit signs are posted on both sides of the interstate, clearly that is a falsehood. After we got on our way, we noticed that there were several speed limit signs that had black bags that were half on them that showed 70, some were all covered. Just was wondering if this is one of the speed limit signs that I saw and that is how they are trapping everyone. Also I called the State Court of Turner County when I got home to FL on 8/17/09 and the girl told me that my fees were $282.00. Since I live in FL I decided I would just send them the payment by certified mail. To my surprise in the mail today, they sent the payment back and told me the fees were $422.00. Now what game are they playing now?
Hi, my son got a speeding ticket last weekend in Turner Co. Iam not going to let this thing go. I am going to gather info and have some ideas on how to combat it.

You don't know anything about Ashburn. I am from Ashburn and there are many educated people that live and work here. I searched "Ashburn", and I never saw one thing about "speed trap" or "speeding ticket". I really think that you don't even know what you are talking about. Next time everyone wants to complain about getting a speeding ticket, maybe they should remeber who caused them to get it.

You are an ignorant idiot. You people don't have any respect for the officers that work and try to keep the roads safe. I don't believe that this place is crooked. I just think that the officers are doing their jobs and catching that people who are SPEEDING and breaking the LAW. And by the way, how do you even know what he(LawDog) looks like? Exactly! You don't! So maybe you should think about what you put on here before you put it.

I was clocked doing 86 on a 70 speed limit and in the middle of heavy traffic. I might be a bit over 80 mph, but this cop comes out of nowhere and pulls me over from the middle lane. I have started driving frequently on I-75 these days and have noticed that the ashburn city (turner county) has atleast 3 to 4 cop cars stationed out hand out tickets ! Besides another observation is that they pull out the folks driving nicer cars...! I believe they think the these folks might not mind paying the outrageously high speeding ticket fines..! Probably, each cop on any given day, might be handing out atleast 10 tickets and considering an average fine of $400 per ticket, that would be $4000/day which a cop might be pulling in for the City !! I think these guys are out there to extort from the folks who just happen to be passing through this goddamn place! Would be interesting to look at the County's/City's revenues to see how much they make from these fines!!

Yea, Don't worry one day they will get whats coming to them.(LawDog) Think they can come onto the forums and act big and bad.. They are looking for people out of town with nice cars. Wait till they pull the wrong person over.. I'll be the one watching the news laughing :) Giving 500+ Tickets for 15 over.. Retarded fucking county..

+1 Jack I'd like to see what they make.

One that pulled me over I could tell he lived in a trailer.. But how .. Bringing in 4k/day for the city? PSSH

So how did you win Top Dog? Cop didn't show up or what was your strategy? Also figting a $422 Turner County ticket, except mine will also have the state's BS $250 "Super Speeder" fee on top of it. I have to go to South GA from time to time. I just avoid I-75 all together now and take the backroads. Too risky going through Turner County's racket. Don't even get me started on the super speeder law. It should be a sliding scale that is relative to the speed limit. Instead it's 75 on any 2 lane road and 85 on any road. When the speed limit is 70 the average speed is 75 to 80. 85 is hardly "super" speeding. The super speeder law basically treats going 85 in a 70 to be the same as going 85 on a freeway with a 55 speed limit. It also means that going 75 on a 2 lane road like the one I live on is equivalent to going 85 on the freeway? Come on! Our legislators are idiots.

Ha. First of all - how did you end up on this thread then??? Secondly, I didn't read the person who said that, but it's clearly a common search. If you type Ashburn GA into google, it has the recommendation auto complete. The recomendations are "newspaper, chamber of commerce, police department, speeding ticket. Turner county ga is even worse. It returns "sheriff, speeding ticket, clerk of courts" as the top 3 entries! Try this with any city and you'll see that speeding ticket is rarely the recomendation. It's funny - when I searched for my city it returned jobs. Some cities have jobs, others have speeding tickets.

The police in GA do not tackle real crimes. I believe they are solely for the purpose of generating income through various types of tickets and fines.
Ashburn police is not the only police department that is involved in this abuse of power. The entire police force, GA Patrol, County Sheriff and any other type of police pepartment are involved. If you speed in GA. You get a ticket!
I think their names should be changed to GA Police Tax Collectors or GA Tax Patrol!
