Sleepless wrote: Thank you for so eloquently demonstrating why some of us might need help writing our reports. Your heart is in the right place. I think I agree with the ideas you are trying to get across. The academy does spend a considerable amount of time teaching officers how to write reports. That training is focused on obtaining the facts, for example; who, what, where, when, and why. This is among other other basic law enforcement issues. There's no time for grammar. Sleepless Sorry my post was grammatically incorrect. I do have some grammatical errors occasionally in a report or two that I have to go back and fix. If I don’t fix the report I will get hammered on the stand during court. By reading your posts I can tell you already know that. I do my job better on the street than I do behind a computer. I make a-lot of arrests that make solid cases but without the help of the upper echelon of the department making sure the reports are ok I might lose some cases. It doesn’t mean I’m a bad cop, it means sometimes it just takes team work. Nothing wrong with that.

A cops job performance shouldn't be based upon how they write or spell. If it was that important, more effort would go into reinforcing those skills in the academy that someone previously referred to, or during continuing education. That however, is not the case. Keep up the good work.
