If there were no alcohol on earth could we survive? I think so. And I think Sharp county will get by just fine without it.

do you know how much taxs that is lost to missouri countys because people drive to myrtle , thayer, or doniphin to buy alcohol they might not need it but the schools and other programs needs the money that is lost every time someone drives to get alcohol, not to miss that alot of the beer runs is done most of the time drunk and if they dont kill them selfs it might be someone you know or you.Prohibition is been over for a long time.

Do you know how much families suffer, the social welfare system is burdened, and the health system taxed due to alcohol abuse! I would bet just as much is lost as is gained from the sale of alcohol.
There is more to life than revenue. Just ask any 10 yr old whose father or mother is an abusive drunk.
Why add fuel to the fire. If anything we should ban alcohol sales in Oregon county.

not everyone is a skid ro drunk, and the ones that are well the ones that stay with the one that is the abuser in that situation then they are just as much to blam as the abuser, i have seen that over and over again. If you take away the drink from a alcoholic then there addicitve brain will abuse something else. the person that has a problem with adiction will always have something to obsess over so why punish everyone for someone elses problem.we mover up here 4 years ago to minnesota we ask what there was to do they said there is a vfw up here they serve alcohol and then the 5 or more other bars, in the ozarks there isnt half the drinkers that they are here, then you have the indian res north of us thats is where the state pays out bout 500,000 a year for just one of the reservations but they pay some of it back with the casino and there is many accross the state and they dont have to pay taxs to the state on that income. the towns in minnesota they have municipal liquor stores they pay for town projects and the schools, with out them they jack up the property taxs higher than they already are. i gess what im trying to say is if you take something away from everone because of a few then you are taking away a privelage and the way things are going there isnt that many left along with alot of rights, i heard one of the most outragius things last summer that describs this, a woman she was 80 some years old in utah, she couldnt afdord her water bill so she didnt have water for about a year, one day a cop came to her door and told her that the city was serving her for not watering her yard, her yard was dead,so he ask her to come with him she was under arrest she didnt understand, she had not had any dealings with the cops before so she said she wanted to call her son to straighten it out, so he slamed her to the ground busted her head open broke her noise then tolk her to jail, a hour latter she got to see a doctor, now with people, and there dont do this crap, just like the muslims dont say marry christmas to them or they will call the cops and get you a ticket, or some yepie that is tryin to tell you that the color you painted your house offends then. and if you dont change the color they will turn it over to the neiborhood comitity and have you ticketed. soon we will be in someones perfect world and it isnt going to be a very good one for most .

People need to open their eye's, these bans do nothing, people are still drinking and they will keep drinking whether there is a ban or not. Only thing the ban is doing is making sure there are more people out drinking and driving. Go down any dirt road and look in the ditches you will see many beer cans and empty bottles. Go through the trash sometime and you will be surprised on all the empty cases of beer.

I have seen people go in and vote for banning alcohol and then go home and drink their beer. So why vote for something that yourself is doing and breaking the law? Maybe your a bootlegger, or maybe you like to risk other people lives while you are running to the line to drink?

Maybe what needs to done is make the dry counties liable for accidents that are caused by people who are driving to get their alcohol. If you allowed sales, then people won't have to drive as far to get what they would of drove to the line and gotten.

Do a reality check, only thing you are preventing with this ban is NOTHING....

well the way that i read it, and it being a forum on sharp co being dry, id say that she was talkin bout the ban on alcohol sales. You know all i ever heard growing up in thayer is church dont like ya drinkin or dont like the pool hall or what ever, and when they try to get sharp co to be wet, and they try bout every election, then they start in on Fire and brimstone and ur gona go to hell for drinkin, it is time for them to understand that there is a seperation between church and state and there shouldnt be any argument from the holy rollers, and look at it in a stand point of taxible goods and road safty. I had a family member die from a drunk driver, and maybe it would be a good thing if the dry county that the drunk driver comes from be totaly liable for that accident, just like not long ago the med in Memphis was talkin about making arkansas liable for the bills that dont get payed from the patents that arkansas sends there from wrecks ect because they dont have a Level 1 trauma unit so they send them to the med and the med gets stuck with if the person dont have health insurance ,or the driver at fault dont got insurance. Its just time for them to step out of the prohibition era, or maybe someone needs to step over the states head and get a federal law blocking any state from keeping any dry laws on there books, but then there wouldnt be any season for this forum on sharp co being dry,but on the other hand there might be one on spousal abuse where the husband comes home and there ol lady waitin with a Skillet or Dough roller then there we go again with the med, lots of men with head injuries lol.

Last time I checked, Pocahontas wasn't in Sharp and wouldn't be effected if Sharp was wet or dry. <shrug>

All that law means, is who gets the tax money when it's bought.

It sure didn't discourage sales. I always remember everyone 'stocking up'. Which ment that there was always plenty on hand for a party.

I live in a wet area now. We never have any in stock. LOL! Actually, I see less of it now. Go figure. <shrug>

It never ceases to amaze me how people are able to project their own personal beliefs into a debate and call them morals. We, in our area, love a good serman on why the other guy is going to hell. In the bible's top 10, no where does it say you can't have a beer or glass of wine. But pleny will interepret other passages to believe that is exactly what the bible does say. It is a horrible thing when a person becomes addicted to alchohol or drugs, but most people who drink are not addicted. The last research I saw suggested that fewer than 3% of those who drink daily, yes daily, are not addicts. It is a part of their lifestyle. And before someone starts yelling, drinking a glass of wine or having a beer is not the same as getting drunk. Most doctors now agree that 2 glasses of red wine a day is actually beneficial. Should drunks drink? Of course not. Should drunk drivers be punished? Yes, along with abusers and others who break the law while drinking. But if you do not break those laws or allow your drinking to negativly affect others, then why should you not be allowed a drink? And why shouldn't your county get the tax money?

People are going to drink! Simple!
You can't control that. Besides think about the money!
Granted money isn't everything; so maybe those who are against it, should think about this!
What about the drinkers' who have to drive 10,15,or even 20 miles too get their alcohol!
Do you think with all the gravel roads and back streets they won't start drinking before they get home? Get real! You know it and i know it.
If you truly want to help you should get on board! People will do what they want, we should make it easier to get! It's not crack! it's legal!

Three items needed New Orleans for Super Dome survivors: 1) Food, 2)water, 3) alcohol. 9th Ward folks had never been downtown to Super Some. Raping & killing was/is their way of life. Liquor stores were looted 1st. Piligrims were headed for Jamestown VA. They ran out of rum and decided to go a shore looking for liquor. Rum, moonshine = alcohol has been since time. Modern day alcohol has been 'cleaned' up.
One is guaranteed clean liquor.
The Bible is England's book to rid country of Pope's grip on
their country. Pope in 312 AD sent St Augustine to
England to tell King that Rome could no longer protect their from raiders. Queen has copyright to
King James Verision's. Printers pay royality fees.
St.Augustine arrived in England. King @ that time
could not write, but St.Augustine could. They started writing down the laws. English's Common Law started. Halloween was time Priest killed that
year's prisoners. They gave you a choice: 1) by the ditch (drowning) or the gallows (hanging). Please do not hide behind the BIBLE. More people have died in the name of Christianity than any other cause. Why are we in Iraq ? 1004 AD Muslins started to run Christians out of the old Eastern Roman Empire. 312 AD Constatantine, Emperor of Rome became a Christian and made Christianity the State Religion. That ended the persecutions of the Christians.Christianity is divided into: The Greek Orthodox; The Roman Catholic; and the Protestant. There are some 250 Protestant denominations. Reilgion started with a little book of less than thirty pages called the Book of Daniel. Please do not hide behind the BIBLE. The BIBLE is more sold book and the most stolen BIBLE. Everyone needs a BIBLE to go to church. Would you go to church with a STOLEN BIBLE?

hardy is in sharp co and its been there for a long time.Prior to 1880, Hardy, AR did not exist. Only a few families lived in this heavily timbered area, and not until the completion of the railroad did the boom times come. Thanks to the railroad, much was needed - a water tank to service locomotives, a station to take on and unload passengers and freight, housing for its employees, and various other services. The town of Hardy was officially founded in 1883, and was named for James A Hardy, Jr., a 25-year-old trackage subcontractor who saved his boss's life.
