So I was just sitting here talking with a bunch of people and the topic of a Farmers Market in Ash Flat was brought up. Everyone pretty much agreed that the people of sharp county should have the option of buying fresh food. I don't mean chemically altered tomatoes from Wal-mart that they call fresh. I mean real organically grown fruits and vegetables, fresh cows milk, fresh herbs like Thyme and other fresh herbs, fresh eggs, and maybe some fresh meats. As I understand it, there is supposed to be a fresh farmers market in Cherokee or something. Well today is the first I have heard about it so it must not be much to speak of and how are the prices?. No offense to the owners. But I am talking about a full fledged farmers market. Where we can all go and get all of our fresh foods at ONE place. I could probably find a place to get fresh cows milk, and then another place to get fresh eggs, and then another place to get fresh vegetables... I have no idea where to go to get fresh herbs. But the point is, we should be able to go to one place for all of our fresh needs. The best the people of Sharp County have to resort to is wal-mart food or the local grocery stores which lets face it, is great for your convenience foods but not so great on the health factor and the meats and vegetables are so chemically altered that everything tastes like water. I don't know about all of you but I can remember a time when you didn't have to season the hell out of your meat for it to taste good. I like to cook but I can't even complete most of my recipes without some kind of substitution because no stores around here have the ingredients I need. I would have to grow my own herbs, which I don't have the time for since I am a single mother. I realize that this is not a big place but that shouldn't matter. Just because we live out in the middle of no where doesn't mean we shouldn't have options. I was thinking that someone with the means to do so, should start up a fresh farmers market, offering fresh foods for acceptable prices. I would do it myself, but I do not have the knowledge, or the green thumb to do so. I just wanted to throw it out there, and maybe see if a business like that would sustain itself around here. To see if people like the idea and hear their thoughts on it. Maybe someone will catch wind of it and decide its something they want to do and then maybe the people of Sharp county will finally have some healthy options for their children's dinner. Well it was just a thought. I mean that is what Topix is supposed to be used for instead of a gossip site right?
