Denver Townhomes: 'Bad situation'

In the 20 years Kim DeNeir has lived in her townhome - most recently with her 14-year- old grandson, two cats and a dog - she says she has paid her rent on time.

It covered water, trash and sewer.

But several weeks ago, DeNeir started getting notices from the city that her water could be shut off for non-payment. Then came notices from trash haulers, who yanked their trash bins, leaving trash-strewn alleys in their wake.

This week, the city condemned her townhome because of rodents, giving the 51-year-old woman who struggles with physical and mental disabilities hours to find a place to sleep.

When my husband first got out of law school, he worked for woman who owned apartments in Arvada. She was such a money grubbing creep! She got sued, lost her million, and made it right back ripping people off some more. My husband refused to go into partbership with her- he went out on his own. He has spent lots of time giving free legal help to people she ripped off- this @sshole will probably get away with this- she did.

Sad thing is, it sounds like several of these folks were disabled in some way (mentally or physically) making a move that much more difficult. Also, things like insisting on a separate water meter or elec/gas meters would not occur to them if someone said they were taking care of the bills or it was all included in the rent. Slum lords are bad enough. Slum lords that take advantage of those that are most vulnerable are really the scum of the Earth.

And thus, this is how people become homeless. Sad. Makes me sad to see the lady in the picture begging. However, a poster in the Rocky Mnt. News forum had an interesting viewpoint. They said that if you have lived in an apartment for over 20 years, and have not gotten your poo in a ball by now and bought your own place, you can only expect something like this to happen. Get your life together and get your own place, renting can be a lucrative business and those stuck with a bad landlord, I feel for ya man, I've been there...plenty.
