They sure do. They have an 'It's us against the citizens we are sworn to protect and serve mentality. Quite a few are just plain scared and paranoid of everyone except other cops. The also look at the law abiding citizens like "we know you are quilty of something but we just haven't caught you yet. Most of these types of cops(Law breakers in uniform) could not get a CCW Permit if they were civilians.
I sometimes wonder who the police really "Protect and Serve". The Mayor and city officials. Most of the time they give lousy service with a bad attitude.

Cops all over the country are out of control. Check out

InjusticeEverywhere dot com,

the multitude of LE horror stories will shock you. Get the word out to everyone you know because only when enough people get fed up and demand some changes will anything ever happen to a bad pd. Because cops will stick up for their own like own other group. Just like any street gang.

There is a bigger issue here. Everyone keeps asking on blog after blog, bad cop story after bad cop story, in places all over this country, what is happening? Why is this happening?

It is happening because we the people are letting it happen. Government is too big. Government officials on every level(local, state, and federal)including LE are too arrogant. Every person in public office should have term limits which should be strictly enforced including Cops. It is an HONOR to serve the American People, it was never intended to be a career to be a public servant. They legislate themselves outrageous powers and there are few honorable judges like this man who will rein them in.

We have allowed them to infringe on our rights with too many idiotic laws and have allowed them to grant themselves too many privileges. It isn't just the cops...all of government has become a brute squad. The ONLY way that any of this will change is if we decide to change it. It's our job to do so. Wake Up America - before it's too late. Because one day we will all wake up and it will be too late.

Not my intention to be the voice of doom but I am realist and I study world history. Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. This is not debatable - it's the truth. It will only stop when WE decide to stop it.

Small Government = More Personal Individual Responsibility = More Freedom = my favorite, Pursuit of Happiness. Love my country and love my countrymen and only want the best for both.

Robert... the Chief had no idea this even happened. These guys are bullies. It has taken TWO years for them to even investigate this. You don't need 15 officers for a noise complaint... these "beat cops" had nothing better to do than try to ruin lives. Good for this family for not backing down and not allowing them to be bullied. I once thought I could turn to the men in blue... this makes me think differently. Are they really there to protect and serve? or just feed their own egos. I hope the good ones out there step up and prove all of these bozos wrong.

"First the officers involved need to be discliplined (not fired)..."

Horse puckey! These thugs should be tarred, feathered and invited to sit on a spear until they rot at Arvada's city hall as a warning to their fellow thugs that there is a price to pay for violating the rights of their fellow citizens when acting under the color of the law.

Today's police are way out of hand. It's about time some light is being shed on their illegal and uncontrollable actions. A large majority of police officers think they are above the law, and once they obtain a badge can do what ever they want. It is time for these officers to start paying for their actions. Losing their jobs is not enough. Maybe criminal charges and jail time will make them think twice before putting the beat down on defenseless victims in the future.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Arvada Police Department promotes an environment of police misconduct and lying -even under oath-. All about the police and their over inflated egos. The police commit acts of misconduct, lie about it and then circle the wagons to protect the code of blue. Unless there is video they get by with it and even when there is video they try to explain away their actions as justified by acts not caught on video. Judges in Arvada's municipal court will believe the cops over anybody else despite the evidence to the contrary. Cops that lie should suffer more severe penalties than the average citizen because of the immense power they have and abuse. In this environment there is no chance of justice and the law-abiding citizens are the ones that suffer. Even now Arvada PD continues to protect their cops over the interests of the community by failing to discipline the officers and refusing to release the names of the officers. Yet if a citizen is even accused of doing anything wrong, PD will shout their names from the rooftops. Be very careful when traveling through Arvada.

Are you an Arvada resident Rhonda? If so, what will you do about it?

I object to your characterization of our excellent Arvada PD. You present the accusations as if they are true. More balanced reporting would be appreciated and might lend more credibility to your news pieces.

Yeah, I'm sure this is an isolated incident too...except for the fact that this happens all the time and Police get away with it. Most of them are coke snorting douchebags, and have serious mental issues. I pity them, their lives must really suck being such losers.

As the Arvada police settled with the family and there were some resignations I wouldn't consider these "accusations" as unbalanced or untrue. Beating and tasing a non-threatening person on a noise complaint is illegal. So is entering a home without a warrant on a noise complaint! Why were there 14 cops there in the first place? Imagine having some friends over with your radio on and the police storm your house and violently beat your son punch your daughter in the face and arrest you!. Later those same officers agree that he had done nothing wrong(only after you sue them). Good for this family perhaps this internal investigation can clean out all that dirt in the department.

Wow! Had that family been non-White they could have turned that $100,000.00 into an easy $10,000,000.00, and have made the national news headlines ad infinitum. It just goes to show you all people are equal but some are more equal than others. It would also appear that the Arvado P.D. has bought into this idea wholeheartedly. One law for them and another law for us.

I live in arvada and I have all my life and some of the police here are alright but others just think they are God's gift to this planet! Also I know the family that this happened to and they would never disrespect the police unless they had good reason and in this case they had every reason! The police had NO right to enter there home with out permission and they deserve to be fired and to be tased and beaten as well!!!

"I will not tolerate misconduct by any member of the Arvada Police Department."

Incomplete statement there chiefey.

"If I find any evidence that might make it to the press THEN I will not tolerate misconduct by any member of the Arvada Police Department."

Does not matter about race or money. What matters is that these guys lose their jobs, get criminally charged and have to payout of their pockets and give back to the taxpayers.

I'd like to say I think it is going to change btoo but realistically I have lived in Arvada for 24 years and it hasn't changed from back then. They are bullys and a lot of cops that come from the outside first see it and feel it too.
Unfortunately your brothers jurist had not heard of the concept of JURY NULLIFICATION. Attorneys are not even allowed to bring the subject up in court. Jury nullification occurs when a jury returns a verdict of "Not Guilty" despite its belief that the defendant is guilty of the violation charged. The jury in effect nullifies a law that it believes is either immoral or wrongly applied to the defendant whose fate that they are charged with deciding.

Congratulations! Your police department looks much more like a army of occupation than an American police force. I hear that the disease is spreading....
