Pretty weed has a nasty surprise

About 20 years ago, a friend of mine and I got into a war with this. We were splattering each other with the sticky milk inside. We went home and woke up with our faces covered in blisters. Poison Control stated that this was a substance that was used by Indians to stun and kill fish, I guess they put it on their spears. I was 16 or 17 y.o. and was mortified to wake up with blisters all over my face. My mom took my friend and I to the Emergency Clinic and we got shots and it cleared up real quick. 20 years later, and I just saw the guy pulling it ALL from his yard last week!

Thank you to 9 news for posting this. We have this in several places in our yard and didn't know that it was dangerous. It explains the blisters that one of our daughters got on her hands and feet one day after weed pulling.

We live out in Elbert county and this weed is taking over pastures and fields. It is very toxic to horses and cows but I understand that goats can eat it (however, not having any goats I don't know if this is true). I have also heard a rumor that you can get some sort of beatle releashed that eat will eat the weed but I have not been able to find out where you can call to get the beetle. Can anyone tell me the following about this weed:(1)are there really beetles that can you get and release to eat the weed?(2)can goats actually eat it with no harm to them?(3)Do you know how the law applies to a pasture or field that is being taken over?(4)Any suggestions, other than above, about how a farmer or rancher best get rid of this weed without damaging other plants or livestock?

Pam-I did a Google and from what I can understand, goats and sheep can eat it but cows and horses cannot. It is unpalatable to them so I don't believe they will eat it. The seeds from Myrtle Spurge can spread up to 15 feet. It is illegal in the State of Colorado. I'm not sure how you can remove it without causing damage to other plants, unless you pulled it weed by weed. If you do that, wear long sleeve pants and shirt and use gloves. Maybe you can call your county department to find the best way to remove safely.

Is this the same plant as "seedum"? Looks very similar, is in lots of yards in Denver. Seedum also has milky white "juice".

i thank you for this update, i really think that EVERYONE nedds or deserves to know about this. i think that this is soooo importtain and i think that we should have doctors be telling and showing their pationts about this plant. even though this is perity i really think that everyone deserves to live a life that they want and i thik that they shouldn't have to be doing a kind thing like picking flowers and then see oh this is pritty and pick this plant that can do so much harm to you. no i just don't think that that is fare! so please try somehow to get EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS UGLY PLANT!!!

This is bullcrap! I bought this plant in a garden center 5 years ago! It has never exploded (like the media say's) into another plant or weed. I work around it all the time in my garden, and I have never even had a itch..All of a sudden this year,, it is a weed? Sick of the FDA banning plants that have been around longer than they have!!!!! All of are natural cures are being shut down by the FDA, for fake meds. It is time to say NO MORE... We have lost so many of nature natual cures, and plants because of BIG GOVERMENT.. I say we need to put are foot down!
