I loved Raggedy Ann & Andy when I was a kid, too. I even remember Raggedy Ann as a brand of canned food.
I'm sorry these dolls are disappearing - guess you could consider them victims of consumerism & hipness. |

All dolls are some form of consumerism. The fact that they aren't "hip" anymore is more a reflection of new generations choosing to embrace other toys. Were kids in the 1930-50's playing w/ dolls from the 19th century? Probably not. So then were they acting out their consumerism and hipness? |

It is hard when we fondly remember disappears. But I'm glad that there is still a museum out there that wants some of the collection.

My neighbor used to make them until recently. My husband's late grandmother made them too... She passed away recently, and I was able to "take custody" of her patterns and some fabric. We have a Raggedy Ann and Andy that my husband was given as a kid.
Although I am a sewer, I've not really been into dolls and their tiny clothes! As soon as I have someone to make one for (either a daugher or neice), I sure will give it a try! |

I think it's sad that the museum is closing, but the truth is that the teens nowadays are not aware of it. I know I wasn't. I hope that later on it will once again become a fad. For now... Go ANNE AND ANDY!
