It seems that gays and lesbians are going to win their right to marry, and I for one am totally for it! Equal rights should be for all citizens! To those who thump the bible and preach fire and brimstone: you're a dying breed! Most of us younger, college-educated citizens want equal rights for all citizens! I go to school with many gays and lesbians and I'm proud to call them friends! Churches preach hatred; gays and lesbians want unions out of love...which is closer to God?

being gay is wrong and against God. Being gay is a choice. However, i still accept them and don't bash them for they will pay for their sins like we all will. i laugh when my nephew says gays help control the population.

A quick little bit of clarification. There is hatred preached from almost all facets of life. There is a massively long list of instances in which a college professor, group etc have preached hatred against for example Christianity (recent one involving a professor at a university in Florida assigning his students to write "Jesus" on a sheet of paper, throw it on the floor and then stomp on it).

With that being said let me explain my personal feelings on the matter of gay marriage. I am a live and let live fiscally conservative christian libertarian. Basically meaning that I don't really see any reason why I should be allowed to tell another person how to live while I demand the same of others towards myself.

Now from my interpretation of the law of our country. Our constitution guarantee's life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to every citizen. The important word here is Liberty which defined by Webster is as follows:
: the quality or state of being free:
a : the power to do as one pleases
b : freedom from physical restraint
c : freedom from arbitrary or despotic control
d : the positive enjoyment of various social, political, or economic rights and privileges
e : the power of choice

So the constitution reads that everyone has the power to do as one pleases without physical restraint or despotic control. That our citizens rights to express their social, political and economic rights shall not be abridged. Basically that every citizen has the right to live their live and express their rights and freedoms so long as in doing so they do not infringe on the rights and freedoms of others.

I have searched far and wide and have been unable to determine a situation in which someone marrying someone of the same gender in any way infringes upon the rights and freedoms of anyone else.

The individual states in our union while being allowed to govern themselves must in no way infringe on the rights promised by our constitution. Basically meaning that Prop 8 is inherently illegal in the eyes of our founding document.

Furthermore our government has long misguided itself in it's definition of "marriage" by utilizing the definition put forth by the nations major religions. The idea of the separation of church and state was put forth by Thomas Jefferson to both prevent the government from in any way controlling religion and religion from controlling the government. In order for this to ring true our government needs to adopt definitions based on the general and generic understanding of the term without religious bias.

As for the christian bashing that I am sure to receive let me explain this. The bible teaches that we are ALL as equally unworthy to enter into the kingdom of heaven. This means that sin is sin in God's eyes. He makes no distinction between your lie and your neighbors murder. The bible also teaches not to judge as it is not your place. You need to focus more on your own relationship with God and less on what others are doing. God is love and that is what you should be preaching.

America will never be a free nation until ALL of its citizens have egual rights. I consider the choice of whom I marry a right and I believe that gays and lesbians deserve the same right!
Churches preach hatred and ignorance, and that's why many educated people don't respect organized religion. God is for all people, not just those who think they know His will. Even Jesus said nothing about homosexuality!

Oh Lord, your BS already. Prove that I am a nut job. You have no grounds for making false statements concerning me. That is why you hide behind the name you use and not your real name because you are a chickenshit. If you cant state who you are, your words are not worth anything.

When I read all the hateful comments about people's ex-this or ex-that and the hell they've gone through in pre and post-divorce stages, I pat myself on the back for not getting married. I guess gays and lesbians haven't figured that out - yet.

Just because some people do not believe in gay marriage DOES NOT automatically mean they are filled with hate against Gay People, or are bigots. They just don't AGREE WITH YOU, that's all!!!

Yes, God wrote about homosexuality. God wrote that a man shall not lay down together with another man as well as two women. Churches usually preach that it is against the Bible, for it is against God. I do not go to church and that has nothing to do with reading the Bible. I do not care for church, but I do for what the Bible says.
