His version of the circumstances reek of mistruth and deception.
He borrowed 550 K on a house he purchased for 300 K and he's blaming the lender?
C'mon...give me a break. And now, he wants the government to help pay the loss.
What did you REALLY spend the 550 K on, Mr. Councilman?

He re-fied how many times????? Sound like several bad decisions. Why do people like this continue to get elected to represent us? I am ashamed at our society that thinks this behavior is acceptable. Live within your means..don't use backrupcy laws to line your pockets. You Mr Neal have NO Cedibility!

SO, let see the good councilman used his modest home as an ATM, took the cash to live the high life and now wants the taxpayers to be burdened with his debt . Typical, he should resign immediately for his lack of responsibility and theft.

It's clear the problem here is that he refinanced 5 times in 7 years, taking money out each time - not the ARM. I too wonder where the extra 250 thousand went - maybe to a remodel that will never be worth the amount spent.

Yep, extracting 250k, then thinking he has a legal remedy besides bankruptcy is a sure sign of a heavy mortgage abuser.

Then this guy has a hand in city budgets. sad....
Uh huh

Being that stupid should get him kicked off the City Council.

If people can't manage THEIR OWN LIVES, why is it they should be trusted to make decision that affect ALL CITIZENS?!?

My line of thought, if he's in this much finanial trouble now, long will it take him to be guilty of taking some kind of graft. They say everyone has their price.

Pretty much sums up everything about America.

Stupid, stupid borrower.

Used home as an ATM.

Can't read a document.

Wants a bailout by someone other than himself.

Looks to me like he's preparing for a run for Congress. A couple more foreclosures under his belt and he will be a prime candidate for the Dem's.

I can't believe this guy bought a house for 300K, refinanced it then owed over 500K and thinks he should get a loan modification.

He should not be involved with the Long Beach budget.

Council members, he said [Steve Neal], aren't "responsible for managing the city budget."
Ninth District City Councilman Steve Neal's personal business is his own, but when it comes to the City of Long Beach's finances, he is in a position to approve and disapprove expenses. Poor stewardship on the part of union sponsored city council members has resulted in the current $18.5 million deficit.

Ignorance is no excuse, take responsibility. You owe that much to your constituents.

That's why the City is going bankrupt, we elect unqualified union lackeys because they have the money to buy elections. The City counsel should be run part-time by volunteers who have a stake in the community.

We should have disclosure of personal financial information on all elected officials...we do it before we invest in a company why not on our officials who we intrest with our tax money. If the officials cannot manage thier own household I will never vote for them.

Five re-fies,.,.,.it's people like this that led our Nation into the crisis that we are barely starting to get out of,..,and this guy was elected to LB City Council?

You have to wonder how much stupidity he will instill into the City Council as he attempts to spend out tax dollars and in most cases in North LB- where the tax base is minimal.

It's freeking amazing !

how about we turn his house into a crackhouse?
Sounds great, but only if we rent rooms to Richardson, Rangel and Maxine Waters!

Well Tom, at least Councilman Neal has some common sense and redeeming values.
