I wonder if the motorcycle was "riding the lane" to bypass everyone else?

They have been using the electric signs to say "Look twice for motorcyclists". No really, signal as a forewarning not an after-warning. Signal for 100 feet and more for highway speeds BEFORE you decide. Just because someone wants to be jerk and close the gap on you does not make it OK to signal after the fact only.

Was this an unfortunate accident between a car and a motorcycle? Or, was the motorcyclist splitting lanes so he could go 20 mph faster than the rest of the traffic? If it was an unfortunate accident, I hope everyone is okay. If it was reckless lane-splitting, like I see every single day, then the motorcyclist deserved to be hit.

....LANE SPLITTING is not necessarily reckless riding....it is not illegal to do this in california.....maybe this rider should have taken the HOV lane...it is ok for m/c to be in that lane..

No Motorcyclist EVER "deserves" to be hit. Winkie, I'd like to see you ride a bike around the South Bay, then tell me who is at fault. Could it be that a CAR didn't see this bike? Or changed lanes onto him/her? Nobody, in a car, on a bike, on their feet "DESERVES" to be hit.

RB Mom you are correct. No motorcyclist ever deserves to be hit. But many motorcylcists put themselves in a positon to get hit by drivign to damn fast while splitting lanes. And while that my be legal it is the stupidist thing they can do. Remember the saying "you can be right, dead right?"

Actually the Stupidest thing a Motorcyclist can do is to sit in traffic with cars. Its is a proven statically fact that motorcycles are more likely to be hit sitting in the traffic lanes then splitting lanes.(the report is called the hurt report) the reason the signs are displaying that message is because the STATE has recognized that most of the motorcycle vs car accidents on the roads are the fault of the Car violating the Motorcycle’s right of way or failure to properly verify that it is SAFE to change lanes. A blinker simply states your intent and desire to change lanes, it does not grant you the right to, you are still responsible to verify that it is safe and clear for you to change lanes. The reason motorcyclist are hit splitting lanes is because 99% of the time the person driving the car fails to look over their shoulder (as they are suppose to) when changing lanes. They may only quickly glance if at all and then change lanes. Trust me as Motorcyclist we are fully aware that we always come out on the loosing end of Motorcycle vs Car, but if you feel that I should already know that you are going to be driving like a wreck less inconsiderate road rage driver and should stay out of your way then please drop off a memo at my door and I will most certainly avoid you!

Lane splitting may be legal. However, splitting lanes when traffic is already flowing at 65 mph or buzzing by cars at 65-70 when the cars are only doing 40-45 is just plain stupid. Even when good drivers signal and check their mirrors before changing lanes, there are still close calls, or worse, accidents. The big difference in speed between the cars and the motorcycles makes it seem like the motorcycles appear out of nowhere. Still, I see plenty of bikers doing this every day on the 110 freeway. Don't believe me? Try driving on the 110 at rush hour and see for yourselves. That is why certain bikers get hit. Be smart. If you really need to speed around traffic, maybe you should leave a few minutes earlier.

KMA, there are stupid riders as well as stupid drivers. Lots of new/young riders have not crashed, and don't understand car vs. bike is never good. My point was no rider "deserves" to be hit.
