no wonder the long beach fire union is taking such a positive spin on the mayors rumor spilling...they are getting something for easter this year. Duree arent you close to the former fire union president who retired. so you have been working some back door deals as well...hhmm... even if this is done on a grant the city still has costs..usualy match costs of the grant

Not really.
North Long Beach only has 2 fire stations. The most known is the one on Market Street, while the other one is behind Grant Elementary.
That fire station is small and in the middle of a neighborhood. I know, I live there.

One more example of spouting off an opinion without backing it up with any kind of data or real knowledge. How many fires did the area surrounding this new location have in 09' or 08' or over the last decade? Do you know? It would make sense for you to know this info if you're gonna comment as you have. Michael you get a D-

Hey Karen--Why Don't you write about what redevelopment money is supposed to be used for instead of just copying the fire departments press release. I'm sure the people who live in North long Beach had a new fire station on the top of their list of new improvements.

this city is doing fine the way it is.the city and state claim their broke, then why do they just keep spenting money.how much data do you need to see this city doesnt need a fire station.the data tells you that the city needs to stop spenting that is not to hard to figure out.

fire dept doesn't respond only to fires. they also handle medical aid calls, respond to injury traffic accidents, and will be some of the first on scene at any disaster. it's time to add a new tune to your tired, monotonous repertoire of condemning city govt and city services.

Michael, its SPENDING...with a "D". Yuo'll have to accept the fact that the fire station is being built. Love it. Embrace it. It's not going away. Neither are you, I see.

Well said. That guy seems to be saying that he doesn't want any city services if they're going to cost anything. Okay, then we gotta disband everything and pass a bunch of city ordinances declaring that fires, medical emergencies and everything else shall be prohibited. It's just more of the zero taxes/ something for nothing freeloader crowd griping about everything.

Your not super smart, are you? First off, this project is being funded with redevelopment dollars, not grant dollars. There is no additional cost to the residents of the City. In fact, the project was initially estimated to cost in excess of $10 million dollars, but due to the weakened economy it will be built for about $6 million. So, how about some credit for the $4 million dollar savings? What does Mr. Duree have to do with redevelopment? Thats right, nothing.... This deal was cut years ago and has been in the works since Dave Ellis first took over as Fire Chief. Get your facts straight before you shoot off your mouth. And, while your at it, try hitting the spell check button every now and then.

I diddnt say we dont need a fire dept we just need one that does waste so much money.you can see all most every day their respond to a call in fact you cant miss it.I watched a one car accident which had 25 police and firemen no one war hurt there was no fire but there was 5 fire engines.how long can all this waste go on,who are you tring to fool besides your selfs.now lets go a little more what is a fire station it is a building that holds fire trucks and has a coupe of rooms for the firemen to eat, play cards watch TV etc,so since the city is all ways cring that they are broke why do we need to spend how mnch 30 million 40 million to build a new garage do you think its going to make the firemen faster.will service improve,I just dont think so but if you people want all these services the city must stop spending money.if nobody has noticed yet the whole Country is broke and just getting poorer everyday.and LB is just in a big case of denial.they just want to build a new arts center, a new fire station, a new brige buy up all the forecloused homes, loan all the business money, build more empty condos, more hotels, nightclubs, and the best one pay all the city workers 90% of their pay for retirement.can any body guess where all the money is going to come from are you going to pay for it.if I was a city worker I would be very worried about my job and retirement, because the way this city spends money there will be nothing left and the taxpayers all really have nothing left.so we will have all these nice new building with nobody to work in them.I know that a lot of you dont like me and I dont care but its time to change the way city hall does business it doesnt take much to see that this city is just digging a deeper hole.

what does the RDA do grow their money on a tree they get their money from the tax payers and if you think that the RDA is going to build a new station for 6 million instead of 10 millions I would love to sell you a car or a house.the same RDA is rehabing a hotel on Anaheim for 6 million thats has 13 rooms that is 461.000 a room and you want to belive that the RDA is going to build this nice new shiny station for the same money not in your wilest dreams.

if emergency services, or all govt services, cut their budget in half you would still complain and say if they can work with half a budget, they could cut that in half and still have more than they need. as far as your b.s. scenario, you have never seen such a thing. and if you had, better to have all that equipment and manpower and not need it than to need it and endanger emergency personnel waiting for more to respond. you suffer from an extreme case of hua but the upside of that is you never experience head colds.

Fire stations provide more services than just putting out fires.

your funny really funny.keep beliving your BS. the waste will have to stop.the 25 police and fire thats pretty much a daily thing, but most of the time is only about 10, 1 or 2 working the rest watching.talking about buget in my day these services were all VOLUNTEER and it worked just fine in fact better.you know its funny how history all ways repeats itself.remember greed never lasts.and if the service buget was cut in half it woul still work just ask about the 200 million Americas who are living on half.they lost there home, maybe their car,but their still living

LB has great police and fire, but if we are adding a station, lets make sure that wages stay flat to prior year. Everyone should take a cut before the city goes broke.

And when are they going to rebuild the Alamitos Bay Harbor. It's been postponed for probably 10 years and it's falling apart. Let's fix the infastructure we have.
