We were in Eureka this past Thanksgiving weekend.I don't mean to sound mean, because I realize people have to make a living, and make it during their most active seasons in Eureka. But most places that we went acted as if they had not heard that there is worldwide economical downturn. There were "sales" advertised all over the place, but,I saw very few "bargains" or even sales where we were, and we were all over town.
Like I said,I realize that people have to make a living, and they know what their profit margin is.It just seemed as if most of the retailers were in la la land when it came to offering any type of a sale or discount even tho it was touted all around.Otherwise,we love the town and wish we could visit more often, but,we'd be broke if we tried it. |

what downturn?
eureka springs tax collections for the summer season were UP, compared to the previous season. |

Gee,that in itself doesn't surprise me,as much TAX as everything has levied on it in Eureka Springs.Everyone there plus county, state, ect have their hands in it to a big degree.I couldn't believe all of the different taxes on our hotel bill.About 5-6 different categories.
Like I said, they may not realize it yet there.Just because tax collections were up for the summer season, well, that doesn't have anything to do with advertising non-existant sales.Plus, things have taken a much different turn since summer, don't you think? |

And,since tax collections for the summer were up,I guess that means that Eureka Springs itself isn't doing so bad but,it doesn't say much for how visitors are doing.
But,to be 100% honest,I don't go to Eureka Springs looking for bargains in the first place, that's not why I go! I can look for that lots of other places but, nothing like visiting Eureka Springs. |

Hey there RanchMamma, Looking for a bargain, try Mountain View, Arkansas. They will offer you a great bargain there on nearly everything, and then rip you off when you really think you are getting a bargain. Mountain View, Arkansas also has 9% tax rate, and really has nothing to offer there at all in my opinion. Sounds like you really may want to try some podunk Arkansas towns and shop in some junk stores to find your bargains. Eureka Springs is a Cultural hug filled with beauty, and if you are a ranch owner, prices should not really concern you anyway. Come and enjoy the ambience and beauty here and don't drop your coins in the stores. |
