Race rivalry good for Democrats Icouldn't agree less with those who complain that the Clinton/Obama presidential face-off is hurting the Democratic Party.

I agree with Mr. Larry Parrish regarding his letter to the editor in the Herald (Disgusted by stance on Mettee-McCutchon, dated 05/13/2008).

First, I think it was wrong for Mr. Jim Johnson of the Herald (Battle for 4th District echoes 2004, dated 05/04/2008) when he wrote,“Parker lives with LandWatch Monterey County executive director Chris Fitz.”
Second, I disagree with the Herald editorial (Metee-McCutchon for supervisor, dated 05/06/2008).
This race for county supervisor is not about who may or may not have personal relationships or be living with either candidate – and it is certainly not any business of the news media.

Ms. Parker was correct in telling the editorial board that her personal relationship with Mr. Fitz was off limits.

However, it is appropriate for the news media to report on the groups who share the views of both candidates.

The Herald wrote,“voters of all varieties have the right to know when Parker (or Mettee-McCutchon, my comment) would or would not declare a conflict.”

The following groups are all fair game: LandWatch, Environmental Groups, Realtors, and Developers.

And finally, voters need to visit the Monterey County Elections Department Internet website (Candidate Services, Campaign Disclosure, Filed Forms – County) and view the campaign contributions being made to both candidates in the race for County Supervisor, District #4. The website has a posting for 01/08, but is expected to have an updated report filed at the end of May, just prior to the election.

June 3rd is an important date for all of us. Voter registration ends May 19th. Voting by mail is an easy and excellent way for everyone to participate. The last day that registered voters may obtain a Vote by Mail ballot is May 27th.

Please participate and remember to vote on June 3rd.

METTEE-MCCUTCHON NOT PEOPLES CHOISE.

The Heralds recent endorsement of Ila Mettee-Chutchon for supervisor is from the Heralds Perspective.

Yes, she was a carrison commander, SO?????
And then she HAD to retire. She was a Mayor in Marina and all the photo ops
that went with it. Publicity was what she needed. And boy, did she ever.

Myself, as a photographer, wanted to photograph the Historic event in Ft Ord when the army houses was torn down. No such luck. The gate to event was tightly closed to the public, even though it had been advertized in your paper.
It was infurieting to say the least. Here I was, over 40 year resident of Marina and could not witness the history of our own city being made. But Ila got her publicity.

Incidentally the Dunes developer of Ft Ord was a traveling companion with Ila and her husband in oner of their trips. Now one can see where the wind is coming from. Pro Developer, Big Business. Lots and lots of donations from them for campaign coffers All one have to do is to look at all her HUGE signs on business properties all over.

But what about the people. Don't we count??? Not much, as she did not bother to return residents phone calls while a mayor in Marina, by her own admission to me. Jane Parker with her grass roots campaign is better suited as ar superviser for people.

I guess what you're saying is that developers and business people aren't really people. As far as I can tell, from your somewhat ungrammatical and poorly spelled letter, you're saying that people who build stuff and run businesses aren't part of "the people."

That's an interesting point of view.
