"...the market's success shouldn't influence the county's application of its own laws."

Is this a third world country where decisions are made by "how big the bribe is" or in this case how much sales tax is generated to feed overspending local governments? They are in violation of their use permit, take action immediately.

Why do we have permit regulations if they are not going to be enforced? Why are we going to have traffic laws if they are not going to be enforced?

If the permit violations were not addressed in prior years, then the vendors and owners of the red barn should consider themselves lucky. They made money well they were breaking permit regulations all these years.

These regulations and traffic laws were put in place for the greater good of the public, not just a select few that are making a profit.

Keeping businesses going and people employed isn't important in this county. Shut 'em all down.

No, it's not a third world COUNTRY however there is ample evidence Monterey County has morphed into a third world COUNTY. The Red Barn mess is merely another example of that reality. Try, just try to excercise some control over this Tiajuana North and it will become quickly evident that anarchy reigns supreme in North County. As for the tax dollar risk alluded to in the article, do you REALLY believe anyone is reporting and paying taxes on the business being conducted at this location?????
My sympathies to CHP rep who naively stated the obvious: plethora of unlicensed drivers and got bashed for being honest. What wasn't in the article and unknown if the officer stated at the meeting is that along with the unlicensed drivers there were/are just as may unregistered and uninsured vehicles being operated by lots and lots of these merchants and patrons. Deputy Phil!! Tsk, tsk!! You should know better than to be so brutaly honest when talking with the media. I wonder what YOUR boss had to say when he read this. You gotta be PC, dude.

I always wondered if the traffic conjestion in that area was caused by the "Red Barn" actually I feel it just contributes to the conjestion, after 2-3pm on Sunday, the traffic usually backs up at the hwy 1Y at Castroville, thus I feel that the real problem is the south bay day trippers conjesting that area around the Oak Hills returning home then getting mingled w/ the Red Barn crowd and so-cal-norcal traffic, the real danger I have witnessed is the traffic from the Red Barn that enter Hwy 101 Northbound trying to race to the first turnaround(not sure of name) these guys rarely merge properly or in any safe manner then flip a u-turn towards Salinas, I have seen too many accidents, last week between Oak Hills and the Hollister exit added an extra 50minutes to my travel, but again a Use Permit is a Use Permit, one must obide by it, as I have one use permit that must be renewed anually, I follow it to the minut detail, and feel priveleged to have the permit, unfortunatly, some feel a need take advantage of their permit but at the same time the folks in goverment were not paying attention until a local group pressed the matter, common sense tells me that these folks must have driven by this location at least once during their elected terms on a Sunday.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Cancer

You may not be privy to every little thing that's going on around you, but so what? Crabs can't always be in control, but you don't need to feel insecure, either. Thanks to your electronic devices, you appear to be a little godlike to those who don't have the same access as you do at the moment. Just make sure that you memorise the important stuff in case the system goes down.
