The Mayor wants to spend $250,000 on four new officers to provide parking lot security for commercial developments like Arnold Commons, Crossroads, Watertower Place, Wal Mart, etc. using the attempted alleged abduction at Schnucks on Vogel as the emergency situation that warrants the action. Since when is the municipal police force responsible for providing parking lot security for commercial developments to be funded by taxpayers?
Aren't most of these commercial developments located in TIF and TDD districts? Don't they get enough taxpayer money to pay for their own security?

West County Mall, Chesterfield Mall, South County Mall, Weekends Only, etc. all have their own security patrolling their parking lots. Why should the parking areas for shops in Arnold be any different?

Doris,

Watching this for a while I will say you have hit a new low in having posts removed that question you. Someone had a post up and now it is gone and it made good points. Shame on you for your actions.

Do not vote for Doris. Apparently she believes in censorship withy her actions. If she does it for one person, she will do it for all.

Please put that in another thread, this one is about the Mayor of Arnold trying to make taxpayers foot the bill for parking lot security at the various shopping areas in the city.

Why do you fear added police , are you afraid of getting caught too? Besides a well researched person like you should know that regardless of whether or not there is private security, municipalities are responsible for the security of all persons and commercial entities within the city limits. security companies have limited juridiction and liability. But YOU knew that didnt you. Do something constructive for the community besides finding fault. So I believe now that you are against the concept of keeping our town safe

I didn't say I feared added police! What I said was that the taxpayers in the City of Arnold should not be paying for parking lot security at PRIVATE businesses. That responsibility and cost belongs to the property management company. It is part of the cost of doing business for the development owner. Use some common sense and logic, do you expect your neighbor to pay your security alarm bill? Or is that your responsiblity? Or do you think that the City of Arnold should pick up that tab too? Maybe you think we should have undercover cops in each one of the stores watching for shoplifters and the taxpayers should pay for that too? Really, you need to get a grip on reality and the economics of business.

Im sorry, Do YOU run a business, Do YOU have an economics degree? Do YOU even have a grip on reality? Just because it is a private buisiness does not mean that those additional officers would not be a game changer. Thoses businesses contribute a great deal to the community Why shouldnt we take these measures? Geez i almost think if you were mayor, you would respond to the situation by cutting the police force. I cant put it past you.

Yes, you are a very sorry excuse for debating an issue. What game is it you are trying to change? Let me correct you, shoppers and taxpayers are the ones who have in the past, are currently and will contribute the necessary revenues to the City of Arnold. Did you know that $200,000 is taken out of the TDD funds every year to contribute towards the TIFpayment? This causes the shoppers to have to spend an additional 20 million dollars to make up the difference and causes the extra one cent tax to continue years longer than it should have to.

Just to note: St. Louis Outlet Mall (formerly St. Louis Mills) has Hazelwood police in it.

I just spoke with April from the Hazelwood Police Department and was told the security for St. Louis Outlet Mall is provided by a private company not Hazelwood Police Department. If you saw an officer or officers there, they were answering a call and are not providing security for the property.

Doris, you're pulling information out of context.

I said "...St. Louis Outlet Mall (formerly St. Louis Mills) has Hazelwood police in it.". I didn't say they were main security. But I DO know that they have responded to fights there before. I've seen it first hand.

Oh, and here's a link from the Hazelwood Police Department's site.

http://www.hazelwoodpd.org/Maps___Directions_...

From the above link:
"The Hazelwood Police Department currently operates out of two locations. The main Headquarters is located at 415 Elm Grove Lane in the heart of the city. This facility is in operation 24 hours a day 365 days a year. This location houses our jail facility and main offices.

The Hazelwood Police Department also has a sub-station which is located on the west side of the city in the Saint Louis Mills Mall. This facility is in operations from 8:00 AM to 1:00 AM 365 days a year."

Oh, btw, that's what I call "providing proof", something LUNN is always harping on people about. ;)

Our police respond to calls also, they pick up shoplifters on a daily basis so what is your point? Hazelwood PD responds to calls at the shopping mall just like our police department responds to calls on our shopping areas. We have substations at some convenience stores in the area, there is a big difference between being somewhere and being responsible for patrolling an area. The bottom line is the mall has their own security force that patrols the stores and parking lots and it is not the Bridgeton PD and the taxpayers of the City of Bridgeton do not foot the bill.

Spectator, you have no idea what happens in Arnold government. Actually I am a pretty good leader, if I wasn't the votes would not have turned from 7-1 when I was first elected, to 5-3 for several months preceding my seatmate's death. Somewhere along the way, I was able to provide ample proof to fellow council members that indeed, things were less than ideal in our fair city. Exposing facts, the proof of misdeeds and making our city government transparent has been and always will be my goal. Citizen participation and equal enforcement of our ordinances is something I feel strongly about. Just what do you think I have done TO Arnold? That is a serious question and I would like to see your answer!

Youve put us in the papers but in a bad way, "Being .able to provide ample proof to fellow council members that indeed, things were less than ideal in our fair city. Exposing facts, the proof of misdeeds and making our city government transparent has been and always will be my goal."

NOWHERE in there do i see , Building a community, caring about the citizens, bringing honor and dignity to arnold, You only care about embarrassing the hell out of your town so YOU look good. It is all about exposing others misdeeds instead of trying to build a city. If the entire council acted the way you do, they would be too busy finding fault with one another to get anything done for the community that elected them in the first place.

Aside from finding fault and petty stuff what have YOU done for arnold? I find it disturbing you would attack Phil in the other thread, because he has made the most happen for Arnold, The community center and the library as well as the food pantry would not exist in this community if not for him your accomplishments cannot compare. Really you should seek out Phils advice on how to be a better public servant. He knows how to get stuff done, Youve just been bickering and wasting time so far.

No, I did not put us in the papers in a bad way. The action of our appointed and elected officials have put us in the paper in a bad way. If they had not done things they were not supposed to do, their exposure would have netted nothing. The community center cost over half a million dollars and materials and equipment were missing off of that site and no one was ever held accountable. The library was on landlocked property, it cost the city and the library beaucoup bucks to bail his sorry butt out of that one. The only thing Phil knows how to do is drone on and on enjoying the sound of his own voice, while patting himself on the back. Making sure his friends and business associates are well taken care of.

So Spectator. You aren't upset that the administrations actions were wrong and violated the citizens trust? You're upset that Doris pointed it out? Sheesh!
